What's going on Tuesday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Metallica @ Webster Hall
Thrash giants Metallica have a new album on the way, and they just put out a new single from it, which… is pretty solid! Of course they’ve also put out some of the best metal albums ever released, so needless to say, seeing them in an environment as small as Webster Hall is a very very rare treat.

Beach Slang @ Rough Trade (two shows, one free, one with Chris Gethard’s Smiths cover band)
Beach Slang just put out their second full-length, which is more of the sound they’ve excelled at since day one: Westerberg-ian punk with a cathartic last-night-on-earth attitude. Their live shows are always super fun, and tonight they play two. The first is a free early show (no wristband or anything required), followed by a more proper show with Chris Gethard’s Smiths cover band opening.

Miserable, Bod, Ritual Humor @ Market Hotel
Kristina Esfandiari records as both King Woman and as Miserable (and she’s a former member of Whirr), and right now she’s on the road in support of Miserable’s 2016 LP Uncontrollable.

Jay IDK, Emptybank, Deniro Farrar, Innanet James, Chelsea Reject @ American Beauty NYC
This is a good bill all around for rap fans, with rising Maryland rapper Jay IDK, North Carolina weirdo-rap staple Deniro Farrar, local regular Chlesea Reject, and more.

ENTRANCE, Roya, Russian Baths @ Union Pool
Guy Blakeslee recently released a new ENTRANCE EP, Promises, on Thrill Jockey, and it’s more of the kinda-psychedelic pop he’s been churning out for a while now. He’s been on tour with Beach House, but this week plays two of his own small shows in NYC. This is the first.

Roosevelt, Shallou, DJ Supermarkt @ Mercury Lounge
Electronic musician Roosevelt (aka Marius Lauber) recently released his debut full-length on City Slang/Greco Roman, and this week he brings his tour with a band (they’re a trio live) to NYC for two shows. This is the first.

Breanna Barbara, Winstons, Doolittle Family @ Sunnyvale
Brooklyn singer/songwriter Breanna Barbara has dark, swaggering take on blues rock that honors the classics but sounds entirely in the now. This year’s Mirage Dreams LP is very good.

JEFF The Brotherhood, Music Band, Stuyedeyed @ Market Hotel
JEFF’s new album returns the band to their prime riffage sound of their first two records, and should be right at home on the DIY turf of Market Hotel.

Jake Bugg, Syd Arthur @ Terminal 5
UK star Jake Bugg, pulls from a variety of ’60s/’70s influences and is well matched with openers Syd Arthur tonight.

Cake Shop Comedy @ Cake Shop
If you miss Big Terrific and Hannibal Buress’ Sunday night show at Knit, and are looking for a new free, weekly comedy show that happens in a rock club and sometimes has big name talent stop by unexpectedly, “Cake Shop Comedy” might do the trick.

SWEET w/ Seth Herzog @ The Slipper Room
Seth Herzog hosts this long-running comedy night that always features great guests.
