What's going on Tuesday?

How to Dress Well

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Bad Religion, Against Me!, Dave Hause @ Irving Plaza
This is one stacked bill. Bad Religion are godfathers of pop punk and remain lifers of the genre, Against Me! are arguably making the best music of their career right now, and the crazy-prolific Dave Hause (The Loved Ones, The Falcon, ex-Paint It Black, etc) is always worth seeing. Night 2 of 2.

Saint Vitus, The Skull, Witch Mountain @ Saint Vitus
Saint Vitus, the legendary doom band, are returning to Saint Vitus, the Brooklyn venue named after said legendary doom band. This lineup is led by original singer Scott Reagers, who sang on the band’s first two records.

How To Dress Well, Lydia Ainsworth, Ex Reyes @ Webster Hall
While How to Dress Well started out obscuring his love of pop with distortion and reverb, now he makes big, clear-sounding music that competes with his influences (he finds ways to keep it weird though). Both openers tonight also make atmospheric pop.

Majid Jordan, DJ TJ @ Warsaw
Majid Jordan first left their mark by assisting Drake on songs like “Hold On, We’re Going Home,” and they continue to rise in popularity for their own material.

The Gooch Palms, Surfbort, Fascinator @ Baby’s All Right
Australia’s party-forward duo The Gooch Palms make garage rocke designed for dancing, with dashes of The Ramones and B-52’s.

Diarrhea Planet, Western Medication, High Waisted @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Nashville triple-guitar shredders Diarrhea Planet are as unpretentious as a sixer of cheap beer and probably just as much fun (though those things probably go hand in hand).

Bebel Gilberto @ National Sawdust
Daughter of João Gilberto, Bebel has forged her own path in bossa nova. Catching her somewhere like National Sawdust sounds pretty nice.

Nena @ PlayStation Theater
Not to generalize, but unless you’re German you probably only know Nena from her 1983/1984 hit “99 Luftballons” but, admit it, you love that song. (She’s had lots of hits in Germany.) This is her first NYC show ever!

Violent Femmes @ The Capitol Theatre
Violent Femmes’ self-titled debut is a stone-cold teen angst classic that is still help folks sort out their weird feelings. They may have never equalled it, but Gordon Gano still channels those geeky hormones today.

Cake Shop Comedy @ Cake Shop
If you miss Big Terrific and Hannibal Buress’ Sunday night show at Knit, and are looking for a new free, weekly comedy show that happens in a rock club and sometimes has big name talent stop by unexpectedly, “Cake Shop Comedy” might do the trick.

SWEET w/ Seth Herzog @ The Slipper Room
Seth Herzog hosts this long-running comedy night that always features great guests.
