Minus the Bear at Cheer Up Charlies
Minus the Bear at BV/SOS Lost Weekend 2017 (more by Amanda Hatfield)

What's going on Tuesday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Minus the Bear, Beach Slang, Bayonne @ Webster Hall
Prog/math/dance/emo/indie/etc blenders Minus the Bear have been doing their thing for over 15 years now, and this year’s VOIDS is yet another high quality record. Direct support tonight comes from Replacements-y punks Beach Slang, who are not to miss.

Mikey Erg, City Mouse, Weird Skin @ Matchless
Mikey Erg of The Ergs! (and a bunch of other bands) released a great solo album last year called Tentative Decisions. He plays a full-band show tonight.

Anais Mitchell @ Iridium
Anais Mitchell’s career got a boost when her guest-filled 2010 concept album Hadestown came out with features by Bon Iver, Ani DiFranco, the Haden sisters, and more; and last year that album got turned into a musical. Anais also continues to put out quality work. Tonight’s her first of two shows at the Iridium this week.

Cosmonauts, The Molochs, RIPS, Brian Hill and the Noh Starrs @ Berlin
California’s The Molochs released America’s Velvet Glory back in January, a terrific collection of ’60s-ish psych pop with a whiff of new wave that recalls, more than anything, the heyday of the LA ’80s Paisley Underground scene (Dream Syndicate, Three O’Clock, Bangles). This is the third of their four-show residency with Orange County psych-shoegazers Cosmonauts. Local boys RIPS are worth catching too.

Deathprod, Jeremy Gara @ Issue Project Room
Norwegian hard-hitting experimental band Supersilent just played their first NYC in 13 years last night, and tonight that band’s Helge Sten will play a solo show under his Deathprod guise (the first-ever Deathprod show in NYC) tonight with Arcade Fire’s Jeremy Gara.

Buke and Gase improv series w/ Ava Mendoza, Ryan Oslance, John Niekrasz, Shahzad Ismaily, Maria Chavez (DJ) @ Union Pool
It’s the last of Buke & Gase’s ‘Improv Series’ residency which pairs them tonight with acclaimed guitaris Shahzad Ismaily and more.
