Coachella 2017 - Weekend 2, Sunday
Pond @ Coachella 2017 (more by Julian Bajsel)

For all of tonight’s shows, and tomorrow’s, check out our NYC concert calendar.

Pond, Kirin J Callinan @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Once best known as a Tame Impala offshoot, Pond have become draw of their own, having just released the very good new album The Weather. This is their first of two NYC shows this week, and both are with wild man and fellow Aussie Kirin J. Callinan who is not to be missed.

Slowdive, Japanese Breakfast @ Brooklyn Steel
Shoegaze icons Slowdive just released their first album in 22 years, a record that isn’t just good for a comeback but ranks against Souvlaki as their best work. Tonight’s their first of two Brooklyn Steel shows with Japanese Breakfast (who you should definitely get there early to see).
‘New Peck’ ballet (music by Dan Deacon) @ David H. Koch Theater
Dan Deacon‘s “The USA” suite from his 2012 album America is going to be used by the New York City Ballet as part of their “New Combinations” program they’ll perform seven times this season. As choreographed by the acclaimed Justin Peck, the performance will have “his dancers trading their pointe shoes in for sneakers.”

Werner Herzog (on music and film) @ Metropolitan Museum of Art (RBMA)
Part of the Red Bull Music Academy, filmmaker and iconoclast Werner Herzog is talking tonight “specifically about the music that has informed and inspired his films, interspersed with illustrative clips.” Sure to be fascinating…it’s Werner Herzog.

Empire of the Sun, Grandmaster Flash @ Terminal 5
It’s weird to this Empire of the Sun frontman Luke Steele used to lead jangly indie rock band The Sleepy Jackson. These days he looks ready to invade Earth, Flash Gordon be damned. He does still write a catchy hook.

Tara Jane O’Neil, Mike Bones @ Union Pool
Tara Jane O’Neil’s new self-titled album doesn’t ditch the experimentation of her earlier work, but it’s her most traditionally “song”-based album yet. It’s gorgeous stuff, and seeing her play it live should be a real treat.

Lee “Scratch” Perry, SubAtomic Soundsystem @ S.O.B.’s
One of dub’s founding fathers, Lee “Scratch” Perry is now an octegenarian but shows no signs of slowing down. He is as eccentric as ever.

Adrian Belew Power Trio @ Iridium
Adrian Belew has played with everyone from Bowie and King Crimson to Talking Heads and Nine Inch Nails. Here’s a chance to see his fretwork up close and personal as part of this “Power Trio” featuring drummer Eric Slick and his sister, bassist Julie.
