Iggy Pop

What's going on Tuesday?

Iggy Pop @ SXSW 2016 (more by Tim Griffin)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Iggy Pop @ United Palace Theatre
With a terrific new album and backed on this tour by a killer band featuring Queens of the Stone Age‘s Josh Homme, Dean Fertita and Troy Van Leeuwen, plus Arctic Monkeys‘ Matt Helders and Chavez’s Matt Sweeney, Iggy Pop remains a total rock n’ roll force. Sold out.

Duran Duran, Chic (feat. Nile Rodgers), Shamir @ Barclays Center
New wave survivors Duran Duran bring their arsenal of Reagan Era hits to Brooklyn tonight, with Chic (featuring Nile Rogers who produced DD’s best stuff), making for a dance-filled night. If you’re going, do arrive early for the very charming Shamir’s opening set.

David Gilmour @ Madison Square Garden
It’s the final of three shows from Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour who is touring in support of his new solo album Rattle That Lock.

The Dandy Warhols, Seratones @ Bowery Ballroom
The Dandys’ new album, Distortland, is a nice return to form for the band, showing they’ve still got some catchy hooks up their sleeves. Tonight’s their first of two consecutive nights at Bowery.

Abbath, High on Fire, Skeletonwitch, Tribulation @ Webster Hall
It’s the 2016 Decibel Magazine Tour, and it’s as stacked as these tours usually are. It’s headlined by former Immortal frontman Abbath, who just released his great self-titled debut with this project, and also features the consistently great sludge band High on Fire, the wild Skeletonwitch (who now have Wolvhammer’s Adam Clemans on vocals), and Tribulation, who find the middle ground between black/death metal and classic rock.

GOTV Rally for Bernie Sanders feat. Lady Miss Kier (Deee-Lite), Lady Bunny, DJ MOJO, & more @ Lot 45
This is the #BerninUpNYC dance party benefit for Bernie Sanders featuring a whole bunch of downtown legends on deck.

Tacocat, Boyfriends, Daddy Issues @ Mercury Lounge
Few bands manage to mix fun and topicality as successfully as Seattle’s Tacocat whose new album Lost Time is a serious good time.

Yuck, Big Thief @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
If you love the kind of indie rock championed by college radio during the Clinton Years, you may already know Scottish band Yuck who have a way with fuzzy guitars and catchy choruses. If you’re going to this show, don’t miss recent Saddle Creek signees Big Thief.

Mikey Erg, Tender Defender (3/4 of Latterman), Shellshag, Couple Hundo @ Saint Vitus
The main draw on this bill is Tender Defender, the new band with 3/4 of the sorely-missed Latterman who basically pick up where Latterman left off and just released their first EP. It’s of course also worth catching prolific punk Mikey Erg and eccentric DIY duo Shellshag.

The Hairs, Dumb Wolves, Jackal Onassis, Fraidycat @ Shea Stadium
One of Brooklyn’s best indiepop bands, The Hairs have been in semi-hibernation the last few years but are now set to release new album While, I Hated Life, Barbarian this summer. If you like The Pastels, BMX Bandits, and other bands prone to cardigans and anoraks, they do it very well.

The Kills, Kim and The Created @ Warsaw
We’re getting a new Kills album in June, and while we’ve yet to hear what it sounds like, perhaps they’ll debut some of it live this week. This is their first of two sold-out shows at Warsaw.

Mobb Deep & Phony PPL @ Blue Note
Queensbridge rap greats Mobb Deep are in the midst of a tour playing 1996’s Hell on Earth for its 20th anniversary, but this week they’re doing a two-night run in NYC backed by live band Phony PPL for a re-imagining of their most classic album, The Infamous. It’s being taped for a live recording. This is night 1.

Diana Ross @ St. George Theatre
She fronted one of the most popular girl groups of the ’60s and reinvented herself in the disco ’70s and flashy ’80s. Diana Ross is one of the greats.

Insect Ark, Netherlands, Bassoon @ Acheron
Dana Schechter used to play with Michael Gira in Angels of Light, but currently leads her own band Insect Ark.

Corrosion of Conformity, Mothership @ Wonder Bar
Corrosion of Conformity are back with Pepper Keenan, and continuing to tour a lot. They’ll be in NYC later this week, but tonight they hit Asbury Park.

Ace Frehley @ BB King’s
We’re not sure how great an Ace Frehley solo show in 2016 is gonna be, but what, were we going to not tell you KISS’ guitarist was playing tonight?

Cake Shop Comedy @ Cake Shop
If you miss Big Terrific and Hannibal Buress’ Sunday night show at Knit, and are looking for a new free, weekly comedy show that happens in a rock club and sometimes has big name talent stop by unexpectedly, “Cake Shop Comedy” might do the trick.

Tawk feat. Awkwafina, Aparna Nancherla, Andrew Schulz @ Knitting Factory
In addition to making often-humorous rap, Awkwafina has an internet talk show called Tawk, and tonight she does the first-ever live version of the show.
