What's going on Tuesday (Election Day)?

boygenius
boygenius: Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, Lucy Dacus

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus @ Brooklyn Steel
Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus are three of the brightest young voices in indie rock and indie folk, and they just teamed up for a great collaborative EP under the name boygenius. They’re playing their own sets on this tour, but they’ve also been collaborating on stage and playing the boygenius songs.

Justin Courtney Pierre (of Motion City Soundtrack), pronoun @ Bowery Ballroom
Motion City Soundtrack broke up a couple of years ago, and even though frontman Justin Courtney Pierre had no intentions of returning to music so quickly, he ended up writing what became his first solo album The Drink. It’s not too far removed from MCS, and pretty enjoyable stuff. He’s also playing a few MCS songs and a few songs from his Farewell Continental project on this tour.

A Perfect Circle, Tricky, Night Club @ Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden
A Perfect Circle are back in NYC supporting their first album in 14 years, Eat the Elephant, and this show’s also got exciting direct support from trip hop vet Tricky.

Fishbone, Living Colour, Brass Against @ Brooklyn Bowl
Late-’80s / early-’90s groups who broke color barriers and weren’t beholden to genres or afraid to speak their minds, Fishbone and Living Colour play this election night party, sponsored by the #iVoted initiative, where they first 200 people to show proof of voting get in for free. More info here.

Buke and Gase, Rahrah Gabor @ Mercury Lounge
Art-pop duo Buke and Gase will be back with new album Scholars early next year so expect to hear some new material tonight.

Jounce, Valley Lodge @ Mercury Lounge
Dave Hill’s guitar pop band Valley Lodge (whose song “Go” is the theme to Last Week Tonight) celebrate the release of their new album, Fog Machine.

Chris Gethard, Nikki Glaser, Tim Dillon, Brendan Eyre, Clark Jones, Kenny DeForest, Special Guests @ Murmrr Ballroom
It’s the Election Night edition of “Regular Comedy” and depending on how things go we could probably use a good laugh.

Shannon and the Clams, Combo Chimbita, High Waisted @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Shannon Shaw released a great solo album earlier this year produced by Dan Auerbach, and tonight plays with the Clams. If you’re going, Combo Chimbita are worth getting there early to see.

Elvis Costello and the Imposters @ Paramount Theatre
Having just released his first album with The Imposters in 10 years, Elvis Costello’s tour begins tonight in Bethlehem, PA. With 40 years of great songs, and a killer band — The Imposters include Attractions members Steve Nieve and Pet Thomas — it should be a great night out, plus Elvis’ between-song banter is worth the price of admission alone.

Beyond Blue, A Tribute to Joni Mitchell w/ TEEN, Jen Goma, Cassandra Jenkins and more @ Public Arts
TEEN lead this tribute to Joni Mitchell which is being presented by The Hum. “We have preparing a very special evening with an incredible group of musicians – honoring the later works of Joni. Songs you may know, songs you may not,” says TEEN’s Teeny Lieberstein. “I wanted to curate an evening that would focus on words that are difficult, emotions intangible, and what seemed like advice through hard times. Joni has a knack for shedding honest light.”

Mega Bog, Jackson MacIntosh, Potted Plant @ Secret Project Robot
Mega Bog (aka Erin Birgy) and Jackson MacIntosh (Sheer Agony, TOPS) are old friends and collaborators and are both eccentric pop talents.

Dehd, Wooing, Patio @ Trans-Pecos
Chicago’s Dehd are made up of Emily Kempf (who until recently played live with Lala Lala), Ne-Hi singer-guitarist Jason Balla, and drummer Eric McGrady and make a hazy variety of indie rock where guitars aren’t strummed as much as used for snakey leads that wind around the bassline while Kempf and Balla trade vocals.

Charles Bradley Birthday Celebration @ Union Pool
To commemorate what would’ve been Charles Bradley’s 70th birthday, as well as the release of the album, Black Velvet, is this party featuring special Daptone DJs as well as a “special guest” performer. It’s free.

After-Vote Throwdown with Amanda Palmer, Jherek Bischoff, Maria Popova & Friends (fr. Brian Sella of The Front Bottoms & Resistance Revival Chorus) @ City Winery
Amanda Palmer, who recently released her very political song/video “Mr. Weinstein Will See You Now,” is encouraging you to vote, and once you do, she invites you to come celebrate at this sure-to-be-fun variety show.

All Get Out, Homesafe, Household, Sunsleeper @ Baby’s All Right
Emo-leaning alternative rockers All Get Out just released their first album for Equal Vision, No Bouquet, and now they’re supporting it on tour, hitting NYC tonight.

Michael Nau, Cornelia Murr @ Elsewhere Zone One
Page France and Cotton Jones frontman Michael Nau is now an active solo artist and released his latest album, Michael Nau & The Mighty Thread, on Light in the Attic earlier this year. The album is named for his backing band who he recorded it with, and he’ll be playing with them tonight too.

As you’re well aware, it’s Election Day so please get out there and vote!
