The 2018 Ally Coalition Talent Show at Town Hall
Lorde @ Town Hall in January (more by Amanda Hatfield)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Lorde, Run The Jewels, Mitski @ Barclays Center
Lorde had one of the best-received albums of 2017 with the highly personal Melodrama, and she’s currently on tour with two killer, diverse openers. There’s Run the Jewels, the killer duo of rap lifers Killer Mike and El-P, and the great indie rocker Mitski. The tour hits Barclays Center tonight and Prudential Center on Friday.

Talib Kweli (full band), NIKO IS, DJ Spintelect, Eman @ Brooklyn Bowl
Brooklyn hip hop lifer Talib Kweli is always up to something and this year it looks like he’s up to… a new Black Star album! While we await more concrete details on that, he’s on tour, playing two full-band shows at Brooklyn Bowl this week. This is the second.

Ravyn Lenae, Victory, Andrea Valle @ Rough Trade
The great and fast-rising R&B newcomer Ravyn Lenae recently released her Crush EP (executive produced by and featuring The Internet’s Steve Lacy), and she’s currently supporting it on tour. Tonight’s her second of two sold-out NYC shows this week.

Between the Buried and Me, The Dear Hunter, Leprous @ Playstation Theater
Having celebrated the 10th anniversary of Colors last year, prog metal greats Between the Buried and Me returned this year part one of a two-part album (part two is due in the summer). They’re supporting the new material on tour now.

Withered, WAKE, Gnaw, Nerveshatter @ Saint Vitus
Death metal greats Withered are promising songs they haven’t played in over a decade for this tour with Canada’s WAKE. Gnaw (ex-Khanate) make this bill extra appealing.

Field Report @ Union Pool
Field Report, the folk rock band led by Chris Porterfield, who was a member of DeYarmond Edison with Justin Vernon, recently released their new album Summertime Songs, which has some War On Drugs-ish heartland synth rock vibes. Tonight’s their second of two NYC shows supporting the new record.

The Shacks, Holy Hive @ Baby’s All Right
The Shacks got a double big break when their single “This Strange Effect” was used in an iPhone ad that also starred singer Shannon Wise. Now they’ve released their debut album. Wise’s breathy, alluring vocals match perfectly to The Shacks’ effervescent, jazzy indie pop, and tonight’s the LP release party.

Essaie Pas, Bernadino Femminielli, Void Vision @ Elsewhere Zone One
Situated somewhere between late-’80s Detroit and Berlin by way of Sheffield, England (or in actuality, Montreal), Essaie Pas make the kind of music that wants you to dance without breaking a sweat. The duo just released their ice-cold New Path EP last month via DFA. If you’re going tonight, get there in time to catch fellow Montreal artist and “genderless provocateur” Bernardino Femminielli whose theatrical show is not for the easily offended (but you will not be bored).

Kyle Kinane @ The Bell House
You may have seen Atlanta comedian Kyle Kinane on the just-released new season of Netflix’s The Standups. He brings his gruff, irreverent style to Brooklyn tonight.

Springsteen on Broadway @ Walter Kerr Theatre
The Boss continues his sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which has now been extended through December. At these shows, Bruce is giving fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”
