What's going on Wednesday?

Liam or Richard: who wore it best?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Liam Gallagher, Richard Ashcroft @ Central Park SummerStage
Two of Britpop’s most iconic voices team up tonight for an evening of parkas, attitude and classic ’90s songs. It’s also the first show of the SummerStage season.

Iceage, Empath @ Bowery Ballroom
Angst levels will be set to 11 tonight as Danish postpunks Iceage cometh supporting their new, majorly hyped album Beyondless.

Deerhunter, Cindy Lee @ Le Poisson Rouge
Deerhunter’s last album was 2015’s very solid Fading Frontier, which was a return to calmer psychedelia after the noisy 2013 album Monomania. They’re following it this year with the Cate Le Bon-produced Double Dream of Spring, and while we haven’t heard any of that album yet, they are debuting new songs (and a new live lineup) on their current tour. Toight’s show is extra appealing, with support from Cindy Lee (aka former Women member Patrick Flegel). Deerhunter will also be back in NYC for a free House of Vans show this summer.

The Sea and Cake, James Elkington @ Elsewhere Hall
Chicago indie vets The Sea and Cake returned last week with their very enjoyable new album Any Day, which has them doing what they do best — that is, make breezy, catchy indie pop with little eccentricities worked in. Folk singer James Elkington is worth seeing too.

Quiet Slang (aka Beach Slang solo), Abi Reimold @ Rough Trade
Quiet Slang is the project of Beach Slang singer James Alex, where he strips down his punk band’s songs and re-arranges them for piano and cello. Opening is Philly indie rocker Abi Reimold.

Buzzy Lee, Renata Zeiguer @ The Park Church Co-Op
Buzzy Lee (aka Sasha Spielberg) recently released her debut EP, which was produced by frequent collaborator Nicolas Jaar, and tonight Sasha plays her first NYC show under the Buzzy Lee moniker. It’s also a chance to see a show at the gorgeous Park Church Co-Op, which may have to close at the end of 2018.

The Killers @ Terminal 5
It’s Upfronts Week, which means lots of parties in NYC like Adult Swim’s annual party/concert (which has been rebranded as a Turner Broadcasting party), and this year’s musical performers are The Killers. T5 is intimate venue for The Killers, who will headline NYC’s Panorama this summer.

Grooms, Language, Russian Baths, Mezzanine Swimmers @ Baby’s All Right
Perhaps still jetlagged from their European tour, krauty postpunks Grooms play this homecoming show tonight which is also an EP release for Language.

Bunny Michael, Sateen, Xhosa @ House of Yes (The Hum)
Performance artist and hip hop artist Bunny Michael (who you may have seen open for Fever Ray last weekend( headlines this week’s edition of The Hum which offers up unique collaborations.

Bush Tetras, James Chance, JG Thirlwell, Entro Senestre (after-party), Veronica Vasicka (after-party), Lydia Lunch Retrovirus (after-party), Nicolas Jaar (after-party) @ The Kitchen
It’s The Kitchen’s 2018 Gala which this year honors Nan Goldin and Lydia Lunch. The pricey dinner is sold out, but it’s the after=party where all the action is anyway, with a whole host of NYC downtown icons. We wouldn’t be surprised if there are some Glenn Branca tributes, too.

David Allen Coe @ Sony Hall
No stranger to controversy or trouble, David Allen Coe is an icon of outlaw country whose hard life is reflected in his honest, affecting songs.

The Fratellis, Blood Red Shoes @ Brooklyn Steel
You may remember The Fratellis’ song “Flathead” which was used in a 2007 iPod commercial (remember iPods?) but the UK band have been continuing to put out records since, including new album In Your Own Sweet Time.

Springsteen on Broadway
The Boss continues his sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which has now been extended through December. At these shows, Bruce is giving fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”
