What's Going on Wednesday?

Bat for Lashes @ Coachella 2016 (more)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Bat For Lashes @ St Ann’s
UPDATE: Postponed till Thursday.

Rey Pila, Future Punx, RIPS @ Baby’s All Right
Julian Casablancas’ label, Cult Records, is throwing this party that’s headlined tonight by their band Rey Pila, and aslo features neo new wavers Future Punx, and RIPS who owe more than a little to late-’70s NYC rock (Television, Feelies).

Living Colour (acoustic) @ City Winery
Known for their pidgeonhole-busting brand of blistering hard rock, Living Colour take it down a notch tonight at this acoustic show.

Haiti Optimiste ft. Maxwell, David Belle, Paul Beaubrun, Riva Prévil with Bohio Music, Lakau Mizik @ Florence Gould Hall
This “celebration of creativity and culture through the music, dance and film” of Haiti features a screening of documentary Dans la cour de Vivianne Gauthier followed by a Q&A with soul singer Maxwell, as well as performances by Paul Beaubrun, Lakou Mizik and Riva Précil with Bohio Music.

Party in the Garden Afterparty ft. Robyn, Matthew Dear (DJ Set) @ MoMA
It’s time of MoMA’s annual gala fundraiser event Party in the Garden, this year featuring Robyn playing the afterparty with a DJ set from Matthew Dear. Swanky, and sold out.

Damien Jurado, Ben Abraham @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Damien Jurado was a staple of the Pacific Northwest indie folk scene for years before it took off on a more mainstream level, and he remains prolific and consistently good. This year’s ambitious Visions of Us on the Land is a great record.

Kaytranada, Lou Phelps @ Highline Ballroom
Montreal producer Kaytranada recently put out his XL debut, 99.9%, an excellent guest-filled album that spans neo-soul, rap, jazz, pop, and more. (Guests include Vic Mensa, Badbadnotgood, Little Dragon, AlunaGeorge, Anderson .Paak, and more.) He’s also bigger than ever — tonight’s show has been sold out for a while.

Gold Panda, Heathered Pearls, Rioux @ Bowery Ballroom
Gold Panda is probably still best known for “You” (or maybe more accurately, for the Charli XCX song that samples it), but the UK electronic musician hasn’t stopped putting out new, high quality music. His latest LP, Good Luck and Do Your Best, just came out last week.

The Monkees @ Town Hall
The Monkees just released an album with co-writing by Rivers Cuomo, Ben Gibbard, Andy Partridge, Noel Gallagher, and more; and it’s pretty good! They’ll probably treat us to some of those and plenty of classics tonight.

Venom Inc., Necrophagia, Sunlord, Metalifier @ Saint Vitus
Venom Inc. is the version of highly influential metal band Venom that features Mantas and Abaddon (but not Cronos). Their tour with death metal beasts Necrophagia hits Vitus tonight. Night 2 of 2.

Powwowwer, Joseph King, Pink Mexico @ Goldsounds
For a dose of Burger Records-signed Brooklyn garage punk, head to new-ish venue Goldsounds tonight.

Son Lux @ National Sawdust
Art pop musician Son Lux has collaborations with Sufjan Stevens, Lorde, and more. His latest album is 2015’s Bones on Glassnote Records.

Cigarettes After Sex, Furniture @ Rough Trade
Local act Cigarettes After Sex have racked up nearly six millions plays of their single “Nothing’s Gonna Hurt You Baby” that sounds a little like Mazzy Star covering The Pretenders “Back on the Chain Gang.” If you’re wondering, the Furniture on the bill here is not the ’80s band from the Some Kind of Wonderful soundtrack.

Judah Friedlander @ Union Hall
Best known as Frank, the custom-trucker-hat-wearing writer on 30 Rock, Judah Friedlander promises “at least” an hour set tonight.

WALL, Us Weekly, Beth Israel, Never @ Shea Stadium
Two bands from Austin (Beth Israel and US Weekly) and rising local band WALL make for an attractive bill of noisy, post-punk-leaning indie rock.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
