What's going on Wednesday?

Pitchfork Festival 2018 - Friday
Courtney Barnett @ Pitchfork 2018 (more by James Richards IV)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Courtney Barnett, Julien Baker, Vagabon @ Prospect Park Bandshell
This is a killer triple indie rock bill with Australian tongue-twisting rocker Courtney Barnett, who released the great Tell Me How You Really Feel earlier this year, headlining. Support comes from singer/songwriter Julien Baker, who plays with very little accompaniment but always silences the crowd, no matter how big it is, and promising local staple Vagabon.

Raphael Saadiq, Tamar-Kali @ Lincoln Center/Damrosch Park Bandshell
R&B veteran Raphael Saadiq has been at it for decades, and he remains very active and very relevant today — he’s a key collaborator on Solange’s latest album and he’s the composer for HBO’s Insecure, among other things. Having just played Pitchfork Festival this past weekend, he’s now in NYC for the free show as part of Lincoln Center Out of Doors.

Bongripper, Amarok @ Saint Vitus
As you can probably tell from their name, Bongripper love weed. They also love Satan and doom metal, and tonight they’re playing their 2010 album Satan Worshipping Doom in full at Saint Vitus. They’re hitting the venue again tomorrow for a Terminal show. Both are sold out.

Wild Pink, Annie Hart, Fire Is Motion, Dondadi @ Baby’s All Right
Wild Pink’s brand new album, Yolk in the Fun, takes them winningly into heartland rock territory that should appeal to fans of The War On Drugs or the new Amen Dunes. They celebrate the new LP tonight with Au Revoir Simone’s Annie Hart, NJ indie rockers Fire is Motion and more.

David Johansen, Hennessey, Chillemi @ Berlin
Subterranean East Village club Berlin cultivates a New York Rock vibe, one that icon David Johansen should feel right at home playing. This is a very intimate show for the New York Dolls frontman.

Jonny Fritz @ Union Pool
The artist formerly known as Jonny Corndawg and sometimes Deer Tick collaborator is playing Newport Folk Fest this weekend and will warm up with this show tonight (that is being filmed for…something).

Springsteen on Broadway
The Boss continues his sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which has now been extended through December. At these shows, Bruce is giving fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”

The Hold Steady, Kevin Devine @ White Eagle Hall
The Hold Steady are gonna build something this summer! Actually, they’re gonna play some special multi-night runs in various cities and they named the series of shows after “Constructive Summer,” the opening track on their 2008 album Stay Positive. Before that run begins, THS are playing a 10th anniversary show for Stay Positive tonight in Jersey City, not far from where the album was recorded. This show has very strong support from Kevin Devine, and it’s sold out.

Beyond Outrage @ The Greene Space at WNYC
Arun Venugopal hosts ‘Beyond Outrage,’ a podcast that examines the ways that art and comedy can be a restorative force in the face of bigotry and hatred. The guests on this panel are the very funny Nore Davis (Comedy Central, MTV), activist and playwright Kayhan Irani, and WNYC editor-at-large Elie Mystal.

Too Many Cooks @ Lucky Jack’s
This free showcase features standup from Kate Willett (Jim Jeffries Show), Helen Hong (Inside Llewyn Davis), Scott Caplain (Cherry Bomb), Tawanda Gonna (Bridgetown Comedy Festival), and more.

Tonight’s Prophets of Rage show at Jones Beach has been cancelled.
