Osheaga 2018 - Sunday
Blood Orange at Osheaga 2018 (more by Em Grey)

What's going on Wednesday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Blood Orange, Yves Tumor @ Central Park SummerStage
Central Park hosts an awesome double bill tonight, with two artists who blend pop, experimental music, and more, and who both have very worthy new albums out. Headliner Blood Orange recently released Negro Swan, while opener Yves Tumor recently released Safe in the Hands of Love (Tumor’s first for Warp), which is shaping up to be a pretty significant breakthrough.

Alvvays, Snail Mail, Hatchie @ Warsaw
If you like slightly shoegazey indie rock, this is a killer triple bill and its the first of their three sold-out nights at Warsaw.

Sons of Kemet @ Elsewhere Hall
Led by Shabaka Hutchings, London’s Sons of Kemet blend jazz, dancehall and other Caribbean styles with fiery politics and decidedly punk rock rock attitude. Their debut album, Your Queen is a Reptile, was up for this year’s Mercury Prize.

Advance Base, Gia Margaret, Lina Tullgren @ Baby’s All Right
Bedroom pop vet Advance Base (aka Owen Ashworth) is touring behind his solid new album Animal Companionship, and this show has two cool openers too: Gia Margaret (who’s signed to Owen’s Orindal Records) and Captured Tracks artist Lina Tullgren.

Jade Bird, Field Report (solo) @ Bowery Ballroom
Jade Bird hails from the UK but her music is rooted in Americana, and she’s got a great voice and a very professional live show that really seals the deal. Tonight’s her first headlining show in NYC.

Steve Hauschildt, Brett Naucke, Prism House @ Elsewhere Zone One
Emeralds are no more, but member Steve Hauschildt has stayed busy as a solo artist and his latest LP is this year’s Dissolvi. He plays a headlining NYC show in support of it tonight, and he’ll be back later this fall to open for This Will Destroy You.

PEARS, Moral Panic, Taking Meds, Weird Skin @ The Safari Room at El Cortez
NOLA punks PEARS are one of the great newer bands on Fat Wreck Chords, and they’ve got a sound that stays true to the label’s history. This is the kind of thing that’s usually even better live, so don’t miss ’em while they’re in town.

Onyx, Havoc, Big Noyd, L.E.S., Superbad Solace @ Highline Ballroom
It’s an all-Queens hip hop show billed as “Queens Get The Money,” with veteran group Onyx, Havoc of Mob Deep, longtime Mobb Deep collaborator Big Noyd, longtime Nas collaborator L.E.S., and Superbad Solace.

Gabriella Cohen, Rubber Band Gun, Toth @ Mercury Lounge (early)
Australian singer-songwriter Gabriella Cohen has an off-the-cuff vocal style that fits will with her jazzy, conversational indie rock songs. She recently released her second album for Captured Tracks.

Supersuckers, The Sweet Things @ Mercury Lounge (late)
Led by Eddie Spaghetti, Supersuckers have been cranking out blistering chile-soaked punk rock for 30 years and just released their 12th album, Suck It.

Sting & Shaggy @ Rooftop at Pier 17
While it seems like a super unlikely pairing but Sting and Shaggy’s collaborative album, 44/876, makes a little more sense when you think that the Police’s early hits were cod-reggae pop. Not that this makes you want to listen to it more but, hey, they’re playing this swanky Seaport rooftop venue and they’re bound to play their individual hits as well.

Springsteen on Broadway
The Boss continues his sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which runs through December. At these shows, Bruce is giving fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”

75 Dollar Bill w/ Two Team Mule & Willie Klein, Che Chen
Improvisational guitar/percussion duo 75 Dollar Bill continue their week-long residency at Greenpoint cocktail bar Troost. It’s free but there is a suggested $10 donation.

Larry “Ratso” Sloman, Caged Animals, The Watershed Moments, Sprice Dog Healthcare @ Rose Gold
Caged Animals wrap up their Rose Gold residency in celebration of new album Escape Artist — Sunwatchers’ Jeff Tobias will be joining the band tonight.
