What's going on Wednesday?

Riot Fest 2018 - Saturday
HEALTH @ Riot Fest 2018 (more by James Richards IV)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

HEALTH, Pictureplane @ Elsewhere
Noise pop-turned-industrial band HEALTH are releasing their anticipated new album VOL. 4 :: SLAVES OF FEAR in February and they’ve got a big tour coming up, but first they play this small pre-release gig, which is not surprisingly sold out. Pictureplane is well-matched support and worth catching too.

Mick Jenkins, Kari Faux @ Irving Plaza
Mick Jenkins’ jazzy Pieces of a Man was one of our favorite rap albums of 2018, and after celebrating it with some very intimate NYC shows last year, now he’s back for a much bigger show. Kari Faux makes this an appealing double bill.

FACS (ex Disappears), Slippery Stairs @ Saint Vitus Bar
Featuring former Disappears frontman Brian Case and drummer Noah Leger, trio FACS are gearing up to release their second album in March. They’re an intense live band, dark and heavy and hard-hitting.

Madison McFerrin, Zenizen @ C’mon Everybody
Rising a cappella singer Madison McFerrin (daughter of a cappella legend Bobby McFerrin) released a promising EP last year, and tonight she continues a January residency at C’mon Everybody.

Daddy Issues, Leggy, Desert Sharks @ Baby’s All Right
Tonight Baby’s hosts an all around good bill of punky, garagey indie rock.

King Princess, bAnoffee @ Warsaw
Rising Mark Ronson-affiliated pop artist King Princess is expected to release her debut album this year, and she continues to perform in bigger and bigger spaces, like Warsaw (tonight) and Irving Plaza (tomorrow), both of which are sold out.

William Tyler (live + signing) @ Rough Trade
William Tyler celebrates the release of his new album, Goes West, with this free in-store performance and signing.

Vijay Iyer Trio @ Jazz Standard (two shows)
Modern jazz great Vijay Iyer’s latest album as a bandleader was 2017’s excellent Far From Over with his sextet, which followed several albums with his trio. His trio is hitting Jazz Standard tonight, and his sextet will play three consecutive nights right after that.
