anemone

What's going on Wednesday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Anemone, Champagne SuperChillin, Hypoluxo @ Baby’s All Right
If you dig French pop, with a baggy, psychedelic beat, you’ve got two bands here that fit the bill: Montreal’s Anemone whose terrific new album Beat My Distance is out this week, and Brooklyn’s Champagne Superchillin’ who are not, despite the name, an Oasis tribute band.

Thundercat @ Blue Note (2 shows)
He’s collaborated with everyone from Flying Lotus and Kendrick Lamar to Michael McDonald and Suicidal Tendencies — the genre-defying bassist continues his Blue Note residency tonight with two shows.

Corrosion of Conformity, Crowbar, Weedeater @ Gramercy Theatre
This is a killer bill all around for fans of heavy music, with metal/punk vets Corrosion of Conformity, sludge greats Crowbar, and stoner lifers Weedeater.

Action Bronson, Roc Marciano, Meyhem Lauren @ Irving Plaza
Action Bronson, Roc Marciano, and Meyhem Lauren all stay true to the way New York rap sounded during its classic ’90s era, but they keep things weird enough that it sounds forward-thinking today too. The three of them on one bill should be a blast.

Empath, Groupie, Wet Mut, Mallrat @ The Cobra Club
Noise rockers Empath have been picking up a good amount of buzz, and you can see them in action tonight in a cozy environment: Bushwick’s Cobra Club.

Drawing Boards, Activity, N. Heroux, Taleen Kali @ ALPHAVILLE
Activity is the new band from Grooms’ Travis Johnson and Steve Levine and this is their second-ever show. The rest of the bill is solid, too: Drawing Boards features members of Dirty on Purpose, TEEN, and more, and N. Heroux used to front Hooray for Earth.

Rachael Yamagata, Tracy Bonham @ City Winery
Singer-songwriter Rachel Yamagata plays her second night at City Winery, tonight paired with “Mother Mother” singer Tracy Bonham.

The Cactus Blossoms @ City Winery Loft
You may have heard The Cactus Blossoms’ lonesome, Everly Brothers-esque sound on David Lynch’s third season of Twin Peaks, and they bring their timeless style to City Winery’s intimate Loft tonight.

Nancy and Beth (Megan Mullally and Stephanie Hunt) @ The Appel Room
Nancy And Beth, aka the comic/folk/cabaret act of Megan Mullally and Stephanie Hunt, bring their stylings to one of NYC’s classiest joints.

David Cross, Janeane Garofalo, Jon Glaser, Jo Firestone @ Littlefield
A stacked lineup of comedy talent come together for this show benefiting PS 154.

Norman Westberg, Scuotto, Hennessey, Jack Martin’s Bob Dylan Deathwatch @ The Bowery Electric
Onetime Swans guitarist Norman Westberg highlights this night of experimental, improvisational music.

Portrayal of Guilt, Fluoride, Gatherers, Nerveshatter @ The Kingsland
Portrayal of Guilt’s 2018 debut album Let Pain Be Your Guide was one of the best ’90s-style screamo albums released last year, but it wasn’t all revival. They’ve got a new spin on the genre, and it’s killer.
