Tibet House US Benefit Concert
Sachyn Mital

What's going on Wednesday?

Tibet House US Benefit Concert
Patti Smith @ 2019 Tibet House Benefit (more by Sachyn Mital)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Patti Smith & Her Band @ Webster Hall
Following performances by Jay-Z and Rosalia earlier in the week, the one and only Patti Smith will be the new Webster Hall’s third headliner, and she plays tomorrow as well.

Johnny Marr @ The Wellmont Theater
Indie and alt rock wouldn’t sound the way it does today without Johnny Marr whose distinctive playing in The Smiths is still a wonder today. He went on to play as part of many other bands — The The, Modest Mouse, The Cribs — and now is on his third solo album. He peppers his sets with Smiths classics and dare we say he sings them better than Moz these days.

Talib Kweli (live with full band), NIKO IS, Dudley Music K’Valentine, Jessica Care Moore, DJ Spintelect @ Brooklyn Bowl
Talib Kweli has long been a staple of Brooklyn hip hop and he’s always worth seeing. This week, he graces his hometown with three consecutive full-band shows at Brooklyn Bowl, this being the first.

Sasami, Empath @ Rough Trade
Former Cherry Glazerr keyboardist/backup vocalist Sasami Ashworth has taken off with her solo career, and last month she released her debut album on Domino (featuring guest spots from Beach Fossils singer Dustin Payseur, Devendra Banhart, and Soko). She’s been on tour since the album’s release and hits NYC tonight for her second of two shows here. This one has support from noise rockers Empath, whose debut album Active Listening: Night on Earth comes out in June.

EELS, Robert Ellis @ Irving Plaza
E has been making mopey orch pop as Eels for more than 20 years, having released his 12th album last year.

Safer, Gustaf, Flasyd, Eyes of Love @ Union Pool
The Rapture just played Music Hall of Williamsburg, but it was missing bassist Mattie Safer, who sang lead on a few key tracks. He’s not got his own solo project that headline Union Pool tonight with Gustaf.

The Mountain Goats, Shana Cleveland @ White Eagle Hall
With new album In League with Dragons freshly out, John Darnielle brings The Mountain Goats to Jersey City. If you’re going tonight, do get there in time to see La Luz’s Shana Cleveland who just released a wonderful psych-folk solo album.

Action Bronson, Mayhem Lauren @ The Paramount
Queens rapper Action Bronson is on the road supporting his 2018 album White Bronco, and while there’s no NYC show, he recently hit NJ and hits Long Island tonight. His frequent collaborator and fellow Queens rapper Meyhem Lauren opens.
