Pere Ubu

What’s Going On Wednesday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Pere Ubu, Obnox @ Bowery Ballroom
The crazy pioneering art punk wizards Pere Ubu are back on the road, and this time they’re celebrating a new box set with recordings from 1975-1982 and only playing songs from that era. That’s the era where most of their classic albums are from, so this should be pretty exciting. Obnox, a newer artist who makes soulful, atypical garage punk, opens the show.

Neon Indian, Factory Floor, Kim Ann Foxman @ House of Vans
The free (with RSVP) shows at House of Vans continue, and this one has a lineup of synthpop lovers who always know how to get a party started. Should pair well with free beer.

Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, YFN Lucci, Kap G @ Irving Plaza
Philly rapper Lil Uzi Vert is of the very current wave of rappers using auto-tune as an instrument, and it’s easy to see why he’s taking off so quickly. This show is sold out.

Dreezy, Manolo Rose, A Boogie, Justin Rose @ S.O.B.’s
Chicago rapper/singer Dreezy is on the rise, and already has collabs with Jeremih, Dej Loaf, T-Pain and Gucci Mane. If you like some combo of those artists, Dreezy is sure to be up your alley too.

Cosmicide, Heidemann, Ian Chang @ C’mon Everybody
Miss mid-’00s band Secret Machines? Check out Brandon Curtis’ new group Cosmicide who don’t stray too far from his old band’s widescreen, post-punky rock. Tonight’s the last of their June residency shows.

New Riders of the Purple Sage, Professor Louie, The Crowmatix @ BB King’s
New Riders of the Purple Sage briefly counted Jerry Garcia as a member in the early ’70s, but with or without him, they’re legends of psychedelic country rock and their live shows are still great today.

Sun Araw, INGA, Evy Jane @ Elvis Guesthouse
For those into experimental electronic music, Elvis Guesthouse hosts a solid bill tonight.

King Parrot, Child Bite, Black Black Black, Cetus @ Saint Vitus
King Parrot headline this show, and if you’re going, we also think it’s worth showing up early for heavy genre defiers Child Bite.
