What’s going on Wednesday?
You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…
KISS @ Prudential Center
KISS have been bringing their farewell tour around North America, and as you’d probably expect, it’s been a total spectacle with blood-spitting, fire-breathing, props, confetti, and more, and of course tons of hits. The tour hits Newark tonight and Brooklyn next week.
The Mystery Lights, Yaasss @ Berlin Under A
Superior, soulful garage rockers The Mystery Lights help East Village club Berlin Under A celebrate its fourth anniversary.
Girlpool, Masters of Fright @ NY Skyport Marina
Literary zine The Baffler is putting on this party-at-sea: “We shall cruise the vile stretch of phallic condominiums and factories-cum-coworking spaces that line the shore, taking in the sunset before turning ourselves over to three leisurely hours of commiseration accompanied by the ever-expanding musical stylings of Girlpool, the duo of Harmony Tividad and Cleo Tucker, who will travel all the way from sunny Los Angeles to crack a bottle of shitty champagne on the bow of our hardy schooner.”
Jack Name, Fantasy @ Saint Vitus Bar
Glammy lo-fi artist Jack Name has put out records on John Dwyer’s Castle Face records and toured with Ariel Pink which gives you a pretty good Venn diagram of where he’s at.
Omar, Jose James, Nakhane, DJ Wildcat @ Marcus Garvey Park
UPDATE: “Due to travel issues, Omar will not perform at SummerStage in Marcus Garvey Park tonight 8/14. Just added: jazz & hip-hop vocalist Jose James will now be performing as part of tonight’s show.”
Barry Manilow @ Lunt-Fontanne Theatre
Born and raised in Williamsburg (take that, Karen O), Barry went on to write the songs that made the whole world sing (even if he didn’t write “I Write the Songs”). Like Morrissey before him, he’s doing a short run at the La Fontanne.
