Motion City Soundtrack, The Sidekicks, Gregory Stovetop @ Webster Hall
Motion City Soundtrack finally ended their three-plus-year hiatus with a New Year’s Eve show in Chicago, and now they’re in the midst of their first major tour since 2016. If you’re going, we recommend catching Cleveland indie rockers The Sidekicks too.

Yola, Amythyst Kiah @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Soulful country artist Yola released Walk Through Fire, her debut album, last year via Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound label. Tonight, she supports it with a sold-out MHOW show.

Gilles Peterson (DJ Set), Lefto, Kassa Overall @ Nublu
The 2020 edition of Winter Jazzfest kicks off tonight with this party featuring DJ sets from Gilles Peterson and Lefto, plus a live set from singer, producer, and drummer Kassa Overall.

Ted Alexandro, Kelly Bachman, Josh Gondelman, Josh Sharp, Shalewa Sharpe @ Elsewhere Zone One 
Comedians Josh Gondelman, Kelly Bachman, Ted Alexandro, Josh Sharp, and Shalewa Sharpe and performing at this benefit for  Emily Gallagher who is running for running for New York State Assembly District 50 (Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Clinton Hill).

Brian Chase (of Yeah Yeah Yeahs) &Javier Areal Velez, Matteo Liberatore, Brandon Lopez, Gerald Cleaver, Aaron Rubinsein @ H0L0
Argentinian composer and improviser Javier Areal Velez tonight plays with Yeah Yeah Yeah’s drummer Brian Chase, with two other trio sets beforehand.

Mikey Erg, Strangerpride @ Mercury Lounge
With his solo project, The Ergs!, and his contributions to several other bands, Mikey Erg remains one of the busiest musicians in punk. Tonight, he and his band play a Mercury Lounge show in support of his power pop-inspired 2019 album Waxbuilt Castles.

Maurice “Mobetta” Brown @ Blue Note (two shows)
Trumpeter Maurice “Mobetta” Brown wraps up his Birthday Vibes Sessions at the Blue Note with 8 PM and 10:30 PM shows tonight. The last two shows featured special guests Anderson .Paak and Talib Kweli; no guests billed for this one, unless he surprises us.

Sik Oheso, Sharkswimmer, Foxy Dads @ Baby’s All Right
Punky indie rock band Sik Oheso, who also aren’t afraid of a ripping twin lead, headline this all-local bill.
