What's going on Wednesday?

Ezra Furman @ BVSXSW 2016 (more by Amanda Hatfield)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Ezra Furman, Future Punx, Zachary Cale @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Ezra Furman’s music can be bare-nerve emotional, optimistic, funny and cathartic (often within one song) which is just the sort of thing we need after this tense election. Having just come off a European tour, he plays with great openers tonight.

!!! (chk chk chk) @ Union Pool
Funk punk band !!! (Chk Chk Chk) are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year (whoa!) and are celebrating with a three-night run Brooklyn’s Union Pool where they’ll try out new material.

Talib Kweli (w/ full band) @ Brooklyn Bowl
Brooklyn hip hiop mainstay Talib Kweli begins his full-band two-night run tonight.

Gregg Allman @ City Winery
UPDATE: Gregg had to cancel his 10-show City Winery run but his band will play tonight as a free show.

Sting @ Irving Plaza
Former Police-man and tantrisme proponent Sting has a new album coming out this week (11/11) titled 57th & 9th. He’ll celebrate with this very intimate show (for him). Yes we wrote “Sting,” “tantrisme” and “intimate.” Sorry.

The Rural Alberta Advantage, Victoria Reed @ Baby’s All Right
It’s been nearly three years since RAA released Mended With Gold. Tonight they’ll be testing new material for the next record (and playing favorites too).

Peter Stampfel (and the Brooklyn & Lower Manhattan Fiddle/Mandolin Swarm), Hubby Jenkins, Jeffrey Lewis and Los Bolts @ Knitting Factory Brooklyn
This isthe album-release gig for Peter Stampfel and the Brooklyn & Lower Manhattan Fiddle/Mandolin Swarm which features his friend/collaborator Jeffrey Lewis.

Kidnap Kid, Amtrac, Jey Kurmis @ Output (BEMF)
Part of the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival, tonight’s show is headlined by UK producer Kidnap Kid.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Death From Above 1979, Deap Vally @ The Paramount
Rock like it’s 2002 tonight with the riff-heavy double bill of BRMC and DFA1979. Adding to the heavy-attitude vibe are LA duo Deap Vally.

Steve Vai @ Town Hall
Veteran shredder Steve Vai, who has played with everyone from Frank Zappa to David Lee Roth, Mary J Blige and Spinal Tap, is celebrating the 25th anniversary of his album Passion and Warfare.

The Long Ryders, The Above @ WFMU Monty Hall
The Long Ryders were maybe the roots-iest band in LA’s jangly “Paisley Underground” scene of the early ’80s, owing much to Gene Clark and Creedence Clearwater Revival. Only together six years, the band still put out one of the best albums of that era — 1984’s stirring Native Sons (which actually featured Clark). Having released a comprehensive box set earlier this year, they’re currently on tour and playing their first NYC show in nearly 30 years.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
