Hold Steady

What's going on Wednesday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

The Hold Steady @ Brooklyn Bowl
Everyone’s favorite literate bar rockers The Hold Steady are celebrating the 10th anniversary of their most loved album, Boys & Girls In America, and tonight begins a four-night Brooklyn Bowl run playing the album. There’s a different surprise opener every night. Clues seem to suggest tonight’s is Titus Andronicus? We’ll see.

Michael Kiwanuka, Cloves @ Webster Hall
Unfortunately Michael Kiwanuka’s tour has been canceled (acute tonsillitis).

Fruit Bats, Mail The Horse, Currituck Co. @ Bowery Ballroom
While Fruit Bats (sorta) took a little break there, they returned this year with Absolute Loser, their first album in five years. As we expect from Fruit Bats, it’s good stuff.

Bilal @ Highline Ballroom
Bilal has been making quality neo-soul for years, and he remains as relevant as ever (thanks in part to a few Kendrick Lamar collaborations). Catch him crooning at HIghline Ballroom tonight.

Pavo Pavo, Hideout @ Baby’s All Right
Brooklyn experimental pop act Pavo Pavo travel in the same circles as San Fermin, Here We Go Magic, Roomful of Teeth, and Dave Longstreth, employing a particuarly airy sense of melody and harmony. Tonight’s the release party for their new album, Young Narrator In The Breakers.

Dinosaur Jr., Easy Action @ Irving Plaza
Veteran indie rock guitar shredders Dinosaur Jr. continue to bring the hits on their new album, Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not. Tonight’s the first of two BrooklynVegan presented shows at Irving Plaza.

Giulia Rozzi, Christi Chiello, Matteo Lane, Naomi Ekperigin, Dan Soder, Free The Mind, Ilana Glazer @ Littlefield
A lot of funny people are banding together to raise money for Planned Parenthood tonight. Both the early and late shows are sold out.

The Districts, Tangiers, Queen of Jeans @ Mercury Lounge
If you’re going to this sold out show, be sure to check out openers Queen of Jeans who make an ethereal brand of guitar pop with just a twinge of surfy twang.

Tasseomancy, Air Waves, Gingerlys, Fieldings @ Sunnyvale
Toronto duo Tasseomancy (sisters Sari and Romy LIghtman) make ethereal, nu age pop that owes more than a little to the Cocteau Twins and Kate Bush, while bringing a sly sense of humor to the proceedings. This is the NYC release show for their new album Do Easy.

Chick Corea @ Blue Note
Legendary jazz pianist, composer and 22-time Grammy Award winner Chick Corea turned 75 in June, and has been celebrating this milestone with a series of dates at The Blue Note Jazz Club.

Amos Lee, Lucinda Williams, Corinne Bailey Rae, The Record Company @ Beacon Theatre
This is the annual Holiday Cheer for WFUV show at Beacon Theatre featuring a pretty killer lineup of songwriting talent.

Denzel Curry, Show Me The Body, Princess Nokia, Tripp Jones, Yo Chill @ Villain
Florida rapper Denzel Curry put out one of the year’s more interesting rap full lengths with Imperial, and his live show is at least as fun as the record. Some pretty cool local openers tonight too.

For all of tonight’s shows, and tomorrow’s, check out our NYC concert calendar.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
