What's going on Wednesday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Cloud Nothings, LVL UP @ Webster Hall
Cloud Nothings recently returned with their new album Life Without Sound, which is another great example of their hard-hitting blend of indie rock and post-hardcore. It’s a bit slower than their last album, and a bit less abrasive than their breakthrough Attack on Memory, but a great album in its own way. The Sub Pop-signed LVL UP are pretty well-matched openers.

Peter Hook @ St. Vitus (book event)
Peter Hook’s extremely entertaining new memoir, Substance, details his years as bassist in post-punk greats New Order. He’ll talk about it tonight with music writer Rob Sheffield, sign books and take questions from the audience. Maybe someone will ask “How did you remember anything at all after ingesting so much booze and coke?”

Isaiah Rashad @ Highline Ballroom (early and late)
Last year, TDE’s newest star Isaiah Rashad released his album The Sun’s Tirade, and now he’s on tour in support of it. This is his second and third of three Highline Ballroom shows.

Moon Tooth, Astronoid @ Saint Vitus
Last year, heavy prog rockers Moon Tooth released Chromaparagon (a favorite of John Darnielle), and black metal/shoegaze blenders Astronoid released the buzzy Air. Now they’re on tour together and hitting NYC tonight.

‘New Peck’ ballet (music by Dan Deacon) @ David H. Koch Theater
Dan Deacon‘s “The USA” suite from his 2012 album America is going to be used by the New York City Ballet as part of their “New Combinations” program they’ll perform seven times this season. As choreographed by the acclaimed Justin Peck, the performance will have “his dancers trading their pointe shoes in for sneakers.”

The Menzingers @ Vintage Vinyl (record in-store)
Heartland punks The Menzingers will release their anticipated new album After The Party on Epitaph this week and they’re celebrating with three in-stores in the Northeast. This is the first, at Jersey’s beloved Vintage Vinyl.
