What's going on Wednesday?

Coachella 2017
Moderat @ Coachella last weekend (more by Erik Voake)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

The Decemberists, Julien Baker @ Brooklyn Steel
Tonight, The Decemberists wrap up their three-night run at the newly-opened Brooklyn Steel. They aren’t supporting a new album at the moment, but that’s just fine because recent setlists have been pulling from all over their great discography (they’ve been bringing back “The Tain”!). They’re currently on tour with recent Matador signee Julien Baker, whose music should appeal to anyone going to these shows.

Moderat, Vatican Shadow @ Terminal 5
Modeselektor and Apparat released their latest album as Moderat, III, last year, and they’re currently on tour supporting it. In between their two Coachella appearances, they’re in NYC tonight with the great Vatican Shadow opening.

Chairlift @ Baby’s All Right
NYC pop band Chairlift are breaking up, but not before this farewell tour that includes three hometown shows. This is the first.

Ivan Julian, Tommy Keene @ Union Pool
Ivan Julian of legendary punk band Richard Hell & the Voidoids has sadly been battling cancer, but he’s thankfully doing well at the moment and playing shows again. Tonight he plays with power pop vet Tommy Keene.

Richard Thompson, Joan Shelley @ Landmark on Main St (Port Washington, NY)
Folk legend Richard Thompson is currently on tour with the great younger folk singer (and fellow Jeff Tweedy collaborator) Joan Shelley. Tonight’s their second of two New York shows on this run.

Josh Ritter @ City Winery
Josh Ritter had to postpone some shows earlier this year due to doctor’s orders, and the second of the two rescheduled shows happen tonight.

Marc Ribot’s Ceramic Dog, Wei Zhongle, Leila Bordreuil + Michael Foster @ Sunnyvale
The great experimental guitarist Marc Ribot has frequently collaborated with Tom Waits, John Zorn, and more. Tonight he brings his group Ceramic Dog to Sunnyvale.

John Oates @ Cutting Room
One half of hitmaking duo Hall and Oates, John Oates tonight will discuss his music, his career and other insights shared in his new memoir, Change of Seasons. He’ll play a few songs, too.

Trivia Night For Cheaters w/ John Hodgman @ The Bell House
Former Daily Show correspondent John Hodgman hosts this trivia night (and he selected the questions), which benefits 826NYC, “a nonprofit providing free writing and literacy programs to under-resourced NYC students.”

Sheryl Crow @ Bowery Ballroom
Sheryl Crow is… playing Bowery Ballroom?
