You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Don’t Break Down: A Film About Jawbreaker screening and Q&A with Blake Schwarzenbach @ Nitehawk (BV Presents)
Jawbreaker are finally reunited for their first shows in 21 years, having recently played a tiny secret gig in California ahead of September’s Riot Fest. Along with the reunion comes the release of the new documentary Don’t Break Down: A Film About Jawbreaker, which features interviews with Billie Joe Armstrong, Steve Albini, Jessica Hopper, Graham Elliot, Chris Shifflet, Josh Caterer and more. The film made its premiere in San Francisco earlier this month, and it screens in NYC for a second time tonight, as part of the BrooklynVegan-presented Music Driven signature film series at Nitehawk Cinema in Williamsburg. The film starts at 7:30 PM, and it’s followed by a Q&A with Jawbreaker frontman Blake Schwarzenbach.

The National @ Apple Store Williamsburg
The National’s great new album Sleep Well Beast comes out this week. It’s some of their most depressing music yet, and introduces new sounds like electronics and guitar solos. They play a free acoustic show at the Apple Store in Williamsburg tonight (RSVP is closed at this point though), followed by a Bowery Ballroom show on Friday and a Forest Hills Stadium show in October.

Roky Erickson, Death Valley Girls @ Rough Trade
Roky Erickson has been making mind-expanding psych for 50 years — The 13th Floor Elevators’ Easter Everywhere came out in 1967 — and any chance to catch him should be strongly considered. One of the greats.

Laetitia Sadier Source Ensemble, Nicholas Krgovich, Astrobal @ The Park Church Co-Op
We miss Stereolab a lot but are happy that members of the groop are still exploring similar sonic territories, like Laetitia Sadier who performs tonight in what should be a very special surroundings.
Queens of the Stone Age, Royal Blood @ The Capitol Theatre
Queens of the Stone Age recently released their Mark Ronson-produced Villains, and they’re doing a lot of touring too. They’re playing a big show at MSG in October, but play this much smaller NYC-area show tonight.

Shabazz Palaces, Porter Ray, JX Cannon @ Warsaw
Shabazz Palaces released not one but two new albums this year, and both take the abstract, psychedelic rap that they’ve always done so well to new ambitious levels. They’re on tour now with Sub Pop labelmate and collaborator Porter Ray.

Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, Small Black @ Seaport Garden Bar
Lukas Nelson, who’s dad is Willie Nelson, headlines this free “Lincoln Sessions” show at the Seaport’s outdoor Garden Bar that also features a set by Brookly indie band Small Black. It’s early: 5:15 PM for Small Black and 6:15 for Lukas Nelson

2 Chainz, Young Dolph @ Terminal 5
2 Chainz returned this year with Pretty Girls Like Trap Music, which features Drake, Migos, Nicki Minaj and more, and has been very well received. Opening tonight’s show is Memphis rapper Young Dolph, who released his new album Bulletproof earlier this year.

Filthy Friends (members of Sleater-Kinney & R.E.M.), Versus @ The Bell House
FIlthy Friends is a new indie rock supergroup with Corin Tucker (Sleater-Kinney), Peter Buck‘s (R.E.M.), Buck’s Minus 5 bandmate (and Young Fresh Fellows founder) Scott McCaughey, R.E.M. contributor (and current King Crimson member) Bill Rieflin, and Fastbacks/YFF member and Minus 5 contributor Kurt Bloch (and occasionally Nirvana’s Kirst Novoselic). They recently released their debut album, which should instantly appeal to fans of Sleater-Kinney and Corin’s other projects. Indie rock vets Versus make this a good double bill.

Mourn, Adult Books, Sloppy Jane @ Knitting Factory
Barcelona post-punks Mourn will release a new EP, Over the Wall, this week via Captured Tracks which features covers of Echo & The Bunnymen (the title track), The Sound, The Replacements and Husker Du. They kick off their short tour tonight with this EP release show. They didn’t tour here for last year’s Ha Ha He so this is works as a chance to hear those songs live too.

Radioactivity, Big Huge, Lion’s Cage @ Union Pool
Marked Men offshoot Radioactivity have a killer mix of punk and power pop that’s cut from the same cloth as Marked Men. Singer Jeff Burke just wrapped up a tour with his surfy project Lost Balloons, and Radioactivity plays this one-off before he goes home.
