What’s going on Wednesday?
You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…
Perfume Genius, Lydia Ainsworth @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Perfume Genius’ fourth album No Shape is yet another noticeable step forward for him, and it’s deservedly been ending up on tons of year-end lists. To wrap up this great year, he’s playing four NYC shows at venues that are a little small for him these days. This is the final one.
Yo La Tengo @ Bowery Ballroom
Yo La Tengo’s annual Hanukkah run shows at Maxwell’s in Hoboken were the stuff of legend. Four years later, Yo La Tengo are doing Hanukkah shows again, now at Bowery Ballroom. It’s night 2 and is anybody’s guess who’ll open.
Nels Cline, Gerald Cleaver, Larry Ochs @ National Sawdust
The very talented and very busy guitarist Nels Cline has been a short tour with his experimental jazz trio with drummer Gerald Cleaver and saxophonist Larry Ochs. They wrap things up in Brooklyn tonight.
Music Lab: Sampling and Beat Making with Statik Selektah @ Apple Williamsburg
The great hip hop producer and DJ Statik Selektah just released his very good new album 8 last week, and tonight he’ll at the Apple Store in Williamsburg from 8-9 PM to “demo his unique production process live, and open up the floor for an in-depth Q&A session moderated by Genius’s Rob Markman.”
Ben Weinman (of Dillinger Escape Plan) in conversation @ Sonos Store
Guitarist of The Dillinger Escape Plan (who are calling it quits after three final NYC shows this month) and founder of the Party Smasher Inc. label, Ben Weinman will take part in an “in-depth conversation” with Kerin Rose Gold of A-Morir tonight to discuss “The Business of Art.” The event goes from 7:30-9:30 PM. RSVP at the link above.
The Landlady Holiday Spectacular with Cass McCombs, Rahm, Caroline Rose, Wilder Maker, Miss Eaves, Lip Talk, Kalbells, Frank Locrasto, DJ Mister Kindgom, Elvind Opsvik’s Overseas, Joan As Police Woman, MK Groove Orchestra Nutcracker Suite, and more @ The Bell House
Landlady main man and overachiever Adam Schatz has outdone himself with this year’s Spectacular, featuring so much great talent, including Cass McCombs, Joan as Police Woman, and more.
John Doe @ City Vineyard
The X frontman and accomplished solo artist plays City Vineyard’s intimate “Voices on the Hudson” series where there are only 100 seats.
Springsteen on Broadway
The Boss is currently in the midst of his completely sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which has now been extended through June! At these shows, Bruce plans to give fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”
Elephant Stone, Paperhaus, Sun Voyager @ Elsewhere
Montreal’s Elephant Stone pull from equal parts ’60s psych-pop, late-’80s Manchester and mid-’90s Britpop. Add to that frontman Rishi Dir’s skill as a sitar-player, they’re a one-of-a-kind band.
Caveman, Fluids @ The Mailroom at WeWork Wall Street
Venerable NYC indie rock band Cavemann play this free show — you do need to rsvp to email@example.com.
