What's going on Wednesday? (no shows, closed venues, livestreams, more)

As of Tuesday (3/16), there are officially no shows in the NY/NJ/CT tristate area, due to a joint agreement between the three states to limit crowd capacities to 50, close gyms, casinos, and movie theaters, and restrict restaurants and bars to take-out only. Most major venues in the city had already closed as a precautionary measure, anyway. NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio is also saying residents should prepare for a “shelter in place” order to be declared either today or tomorrow, which would only allow residents to leave their homes for food, medicine or exercise.

Some of tonight’s postponed NYC-area shows include Best Coast/Mannequin Pussy at Brooklyn Steel, Uniform + The Body at Market Hotel, and more.

TODAY’S LIVESTREAMS

Though you can’t attend any concerts in person, you can livestream some from the comfort of your own home, including…

Porridge Radio (whose new album we love) would have played the British Music Embassy Sessions at SXSW this week, so instead they’ll do it as a livestream via YouTube at 9:50 AM ET.

Dave Hause at 3 PM ET. Info and “tickets” here.

Thao Nguyen of Thao & the Get Down Stay Down is streaming ‘Thao TV for Kids’ on Instagram at 3:30 PM ET. Info here.

Christine and the Queens is doing something everyday at 6 PM ET on Instagram and she promises “guests and weird concepts included.”

Ben Gibbard is livestreaming solo performances from his home studio everyday at 7 PM ET. Read more and tune in here.

The Met is hosting “Nightly Met Opera Streams” every day during its coronavirus closure. Each night is a different “complete operatic gem from our collection of HD presentations from the past 14 years.” Each night’s new opera begins streaming at 7:30 PM ET and will repeat through 3:30 PM the following day. Yesterday was Puccini’s La Bohème and today it’s Verdi’s Il Trovatore.

Ridgewood venue Nowadays is streaming live every night from 8 PM-midnight until they’re open again. Read more and tune in here.

Comedy Cellar is livestreaming ‘Live From The Comedy Cellar: Corona Edition’ at 8:30 PM ET on their YouTube channel with Ari Shaffir, Chris Distefano, Rich Vos, Michael Suarez, and host Robert Kelly.
