Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters @ Beacon Theatre
Though it would be reasonable to assume that the Led Zeppelin albums are all the Robert Plant you need, his recent music with backing band The Sensational Space Shifters, including last year’s Carry Fire, has actually been really great. He dives deep into psychedelic folk these days, and the Sensational Space Shifters do a good job of adding a modern touch to his music. They also work in a handful of Zeppelin classics live, making the shows even more worth seeing.
Robyn Hitchcock @ City Vineyard
While known for his more psychedelic side, Robyn Hitchock is one of the great love song writers in Modern Rock from “I Wanna Destroy You” to “One Long Pair of Eyes” and beyond. Spending Valentine’s Day with Robyn in the company of only 99 other guests, sounds pretty ideal, and it’s no surprise this show is sold out.
John Maus, Gary War @ Elsewhere Hall
John Maus returned in 2017 with Screen Memories, his first new album in six years. And while he now has a live band, Maus’ enthusiastic performance style hasn’t changed a bit.
Homeshake, Greatest Champion Alive @ Market Hotel
Homeshake frontman Peter Sagar used to be Mac DeMarco’s lead guitarist and the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree, with last year’s Fresh Air full of dreamy melodies and that distinctive waterlogged guitar sound. Clearly there’s room for both he and Mac — this is Homeshake’s second of four sold-out Market Hotel shows.

If this seems like a whole lot of performers for one night, well it is — it’s Jonathan Toubin & Panache Booking’s annual Village of Love benefit, with surprise guests still to be announced and all proceeds benefiting Planned Parenthood.
Cup (Yuka C. Honda & Nels Cline), Dave Harrington @ National Sawdust
Yuka Honda of Cibo Matto and Wilco guitarist Nels Cline are Cup, who are playing a rare show especially for Valentine’s Day. Darkside’s Dave Harrington opens with a solo set.
Field Mouse, Control Top, Onesie, Joseph D’Agostino (of Cymbals Eat Guitars) @ Elsewhere Zone One
Philly/Brooklyn indie rockers Field Mouse always put on a good show, and making this one even more appealing is an opening set from Cymbals Eat Guitars singer Joseph D’Agostino.
The-Dream, Bria Jhane @ Gramercy Theatre
The great R&B singer/songwriter The-Dream has recently been celebrating the 10th anniversary of his debut album Love Hate on tour, and he’s also possibly got new music coming this year.
The Wailers @ Brooklyn Bowl
Bassist Aston “Family Man” Barrett has reunited many of The Wailers original members, including Junior Marvin and Donald Kinsey. This is the first of two Brooklyn Bowl shows.
