where to watch the 2018 Fourth of July fireworks in NYC

The 4th of July is coming up next week — Wednesday to be specific, much to the chagrin of three-day weekend fans — and in New York that means, among other things, the annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks. This year there are 3000 total shells and effects being set off, with 20 brand new ones, all launched from seven barges stationed along the East River between East 23rd and East 40th St. The light show starts at approximately 9:25 PM and you’ll be able to see the display anywhere with an unobstructed view of the sky (like Williamsburg’s new Domino Park, or a friend’s roof) but there are five official viewing points in Manhattan:

  • 42nd Street & FDR Drive
  • 34th Street & FDR Drive
  • 23rd Street & FDR Drive
  • 18th Street & Avenue C
  • Houston Street & FDR Drive

The fireworks will also be aired live on NBC, which will feature performances by Kelly Clarkson, Ricky Martin, Blake Shelton, and Keith Urban and the telecast begins at 8 PM.

Coney Island has fireworks too on the 4th, and Snoop Dogg will headline the Fifth Annual Jersey City 4th of July Experience across the Hudson in NJ.
