Whitney

Whitney (ex-Smith Westerns) touring with NE-HI, Wild Nothing, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra after SXSW

Whitney, the new band from former Smith Westerns members Julien Ehrlich and Max Kakacek, still haven’t announced details of their debut album, apart from it’s due out later this year on Secretly Canadian. Their single “No Woman,” still sounds pretty fresh with its countrified, Velvet Underound vibe, and warm horns. If you haven’t heard that yet, do listen below.

Folks attending SXSW this week will likely get to hear more off the record, as they’re playing seven shows this week, all of which are free. Those include the free BrooklynVegan party on Friday at Cheer Up Charlies with Cocorosie, Kevin Morby, Yuck, Alex G, KING, Pinegrove, Tacocat, and more (RSVP).

After SXSW, Whitney will be on tour with NE-HI, then Wild Nothing, and then Unknown Mortal Orchestra (with whom Erlich also played drums), which will keep them busy through most of the spring. No NYC dates at the moment, though, but stay tuned.

Erlich and Kakacek’s old Smith Westerns bandmate Cullen Omori will be at SXSW (and touring) too. All Whitney tour dates are listed below.
