Wildhoney and Mercury Girls made us a year-end mix of their favorite 2016 songs (listen)

Kevin Attics with Mercury Girls, CMJ 2015 (more by Amanda Hatfield)

Kevin Attics of bands Literature and Mercury Girls, has made year-end mixes for BrooklynVegan for the last couple years. He’s done it again, this time enlisting help from Wildhoney’s Joe Trainor. (Kevin is occasionally a live member in Wildhoney too.). They call this year’s mix “The Untameables” and here’s Kevin’s intro:

Let’s be honest. By March of this year we’d already exhausted the phrase “Fuck 2016”. What started as a rough Spring for many became an all-out freefall for most everyone by Autumn. But for those paying attention, the chaos 2016 brought with it was matched by a creative heart that beat back stronger and louder than ever. Artists whose music gave us a blueprint on channelling grief and loss (Japanese Breakfast, Fear of Men), bands whose aggression and frustration equaled our own (Post Pink, Mannequin Pussy, Bad Moves), and plenty of music for the dance party at the end of the world (Real Numbers, The Spook School). Also, Hurry released new music for, like, the third year in a row so there’s that.

Here again is a collection of essential songs from the past year. A little mix for you as we prepare for the work ahead of us.

You can listen to their mix and check out the tracklist below.

Wildhoney and Mercury Girls were both on the terrific Continental Drift compilation that was released via Fortuna Pop!/Slumberland earlier this year which you can stream below. Mercury Girls will be in NYC to play with No Joy at Shea Stadium on February 25. Evil Daughter are also on the bill and tickets are on sale now. Mercury Girls will also play Philly’s Boot & Saddle on December 17 which is the 6th Annual Work Drugs Holiday Spectacle with RFA.
