William Bell released ‘This is Where I Live,’ playing free Hudson RiverStage show

Old-school soul man William Bell released his new album This is Where I Live, his first in over a decade, earlier this summer. Something of a return to roots for Bell, it was his first release on the legendary Stax records since he was originally on the label in the late ’60s and early ’70s. Known as a bit of a lesser-known team player for the Stax crew (he co-wrote the classic “Born Under A Bad Sign” for Albert King), it’s always good to see people from that era sticking it for a new generation to discover. In this case, This is Where I Live is a beautiful slice of soul classicism. You can listen to that below.

Bell has a free NYC show coming up this weekend (he toured a bit earlier this summer behind the new album release), as he’ll be part of that free Hudson RiverStage series, which hosted that Deer Tick/Margo Price show a few weeks back. The William Bell show is on August 6 at Hudson River Park’s Pier 97, and also features Daptone signee James Hunter Six, along with George Porter Jr. & Runnin’ Pardners, Taylor McFerrin and DJ Johnathan Toubin. That show starts at 2 PM and runs all the way until 9.
