the grand victory bon voyage

Williamsburg venue Grand Victory, RIP

This past weekend, Williamsburg venue The Grand Victory hosted its final shows. Since opening in January of 2012 the venue has been a home for punk, metal, hardcore, indie rock, and more.

The second-to-last night, Saturday (7/30), had a performance from the legendary John Doe of X, who normally plays larger places. Did you catch the intimate show? Check out a few Instagrams from that show, below. Catch John Doe again when X hit the road this month. Their tour includes a BrooklynVegan-presented show on August 13 at Irving Plaza. Tickets for that show are still available.

Grand Victory’s final day, Sunday (7/31), included a hardcore matinee and a “Bon Voyage to The Grand Victory and Stalkers” night show. The matinee was headlined by SubZero, and the night show doubled as the last Grand Victory show as well as The Stalkers’ last show as a band. The show lasted into the early hours of Monday (8/1).

Although The Grand Victory has shut its doors at 245 Grand St, general manager Sean Dougherty said he is “in the process of finding a new location and [hopes] to be in operation by early next year.” Grand Victory’s closure comes just about five years after Bruar Falls closed in the same space.

RIP to The Grand Victory. We’ll be on the lookout for your new location.
