Williamsburg's Passenger Bar closing, planning to relocate

Passenger Bar

Williamsburg, Brooklyn’s ever-changing landscape continues and the neighborhood is about to lose yet another venue/bar — Southside spot The Passenger Bar which will close for good next weekend though the owner plans to relocate. The place only opened three years ago. Here’s the official word:

In another sad story of the overdevelopment of Williamsburg, our building was purchased and plans were made to gut renovate and build upwards to infinity. After a long negotiation process, a deal has been agreed upon, and Passenger Bar will be closing while we seek a new space. Never fear, upon closing, we’ll be hosting signature Passenger events at other cool spots as a bridge to us re-opening.

The Passenger Bar has hosted bands (Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Crocodiles are two notable ones) and loads of DJs (Genesis P-Orridge, Dee Dee from Dum Dum Girls, Andy Rourke, etc) and is a go-to spot for official show afterparties. (BrooklynVegan presented a Spinal Tap release party there once.) The last official day of The Passenger Bar is November 8 but they’ll throw a goodbye party the day before (Saturday, 11/7) featuring a live performance from surfrockers The Cameramen and TV on the Radio’s Jaleel Bunton plus some “very special guests” on DJ duty. That party is free and flyer is below.

Cameo Gallery in Williamsburg closes in November as well. Passenger Bar has got a few other events planned over the next 10 days and you can check out their calendar.
