Windhand tell us what they're listening to ahead of tour

Windhand‘s anticipated fourth album Eternal Return comes out this Friday (10/5) via Relapse, and going by the two singles they released so far, it’s shaping up to be their biggest and clearest sounding album yet. Windhand’s tour begins a few days after the album comes out, and extends through 2019.

Ahead of the tour, we asked Windhand what they’ve been listening to lately, and all four members — vocalist Dorthia Cottrell, guitarist Garrett Morris, drummer Ryan Wolfe, and bassist Parker Chandler — sent over their own individual picks with commentary on each one. Check out what they picked and what they had to say, below.

The first leg of Windhand’s tour is with Satan’s Satyrs and includes a Brooklyn show on November 2 at Elsewhere Hall (tickets). All dates are listed below.

WHAT WINDHAND ARE LISTENING TO

RYAN WOLFE’S PICKS:

Nickelus F – “Trill Burr”

Got to see him play live three times within a month this summer. Easily the funniest time I’ve had at a show lately. Shake ya dreads Petey!

Silverhead – “Hello New York”

Just got turned on to this band recently and immediately it reminded me of Faces and Humble Pie. Solid English sleaze rock.

PARKER CHANDLER’S PICKS:

Big Kizz – “Long Distance Call”

I’ve been trying to listen to more current music. This is one of the bands that stuck out.

Shellac – “Prayer to God”

Never gets old.

GARRETT MORRIS’ PICKS:

Grateful Dead – “Morning Dew” (Live, Ithaca, NY 5/8/77)

When I don’t care and just want to melt away with the end of the world.

Otis Redding – “(Sittin’ On) The Dock Of The Bay”

A silver lining when I feel like I’m being pulled in 100 different directions.

DORTHIA COTTRELL’S PICKS:

Soundgarden – “Slaves and Bulldozers”

This song always gets me excited, classic Soundgarden — so simple and heavy, great lyrics and infectious melody.

Townes Van Zandt – “Highway Kind”

It’s the saddest song I know and I love torturing myself with it.
