Wreck & Reference share "Ascend" video, touring, playing NYC with Sannhet

Genre-defying heavy band Wreck & Reference recently announced their new album Indifferent Rivers Romance and shared the song “Powders,” and we’re now premiering the video for another track from the LP, “Ascend.” The song is led by harshly-screamed vocals, but musically it’s pulling from ambient post-rock and electronic art pop. It’s quite a mix to attempt, and Wreck & Reference pull it off very well. Check out the video below.

The album’s due out July 22 via The Flenser (pre-order). Artwork, tracklist, and streams of “Powders” and another song from the album, “The Clearing,” below.

Wreck & Reference also have shows coming up, including one in Brooklyn on August 26 at Alphaville. That show will be headlined by local post-metal trio (and Wreck & Reference’s Flenser labelmates) Sannhet, who will be celebrating the release of their upcoming EP Young Death (on Hospital Productions). The show also has opening sets from Field Agent and Some Ember. Tickets are on sale now. All Wreck & Reference tour dates are listed below.

Sannhet haven’t revealed any music off Young Death yet, but they did recently release “Short Life” for the Adult Swim singles series. It’s another dose of their soaring, heavy/beautiful sound, as you can hear for yourself below. You can also check out the Young Death artwork below.
