XXXY

Since adopting the moniker XXXY in 2009, UK producer Rupert Taylor has dropped quite a few singles on various labels. Earlier this year, he put out a 10″ single for “You Always Start It” b/w “Ordinary Things” on the Ten Thousand Yen label. 350 copies were pressed and are now all sold out but you can stream the tracks on his bandcamp and below.

XXXY is back with his second single of the year, “You Gotta Do You” b/w “Open Your Eyes,” which he released today (7/8) on Orca Recordings. On the new tracks XXXY goes for a slightly wonkier, bass-heavy sound, as opposed to his more chilled out offerings from earlier this year. Listen to soundcloud streams of the tracks below and pick up the 12″ at Boomkat.

In addition to his singles, he’s also done remixes for notable artists including Radiohead and How To Dress Well.

StompMag: The first track of yours I heard was a remix of Videotapes by Radiohead. Are you a big fan?

XXXY: Yeah, I’m a really big Radiohead fan. I haven’t had the chance to get to the new album as much as I’d like to but I love everything they’ve done and I’ve been to see them a bunch of times. The remix of Videotapes just kind of came into my head and it was around the right tempo for me to work with. Normally when I’m doing remixes people approach me with an idea and if it’s something I want to do and if I like the music, I’ll do it. With the remix of Ready For The World, Tri Angle approached me and asked would I like to do something for How To Dress Well. And I said “definitely” because I love the album. And I think it turned out pretty good.

StompMag: Do you listen to a lot of music from the Tri Angle label?

XXXY: Yeah, I really like the stuff they’re putting out. I really like OOoOO and How To Dress Well- they’ve got a lot of strange interesting sounds coming out. It’s something different and really high quality.

Grab the How To Dress Well remix above and check out the Radiohead remix (titled “Straight to Video”) below.

XXXY has some upcoming international dates in late July and early August. Those dates include two US shows which both take place late this month in NYC. He headlines Tammany Hall on July 29 with Laurel Halo, Shlomo, Braille, and Contakt. Tickets are on sale now. The next day (7/30) he plays PS1’s ‘Warm Up’ with Tri Angle’s Holy Other and Das Racist (DJ).
