Yeah Yeah Yeahs played Growlers 6 and Oakland, CA (pics, setlists)
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs hadn’t played live in four years before a Thursday show at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles, and their Growlers 6 performance is only the second of four they plan to play this year. So yeah, it felt special to get them in San Pedro, and especially in a return that showed no sign of rust.
Singer Karen O is a force of nature, arriving on stage in what looked like a bedazzled motorcycle helmet, biting the mic to growl hands-free, spray water from her mouth six feet into the air, and whipping her mic cord like a lion tamer. And that was just the first song. – [Daily Breeze]
Yeah Yeah Yeahs are currently celebrating the release of the deluxe edition of their classic debut, Fever to Tell, and are out playing a few shows. Following their performance at Los Angeles’ Fonda Theatre, they played LA again over Halloween Weekend (10/28) as part of the Growlers 6 festival, and then Monday night (10/30) they played Oakland, CA’s Fox Theatre. None of these shows so far have been straight album-in-full shows: At Growlers 6 they played six Fever to Tell tracks and at the Oakland show they play nine of the 11 songs off the album (plus bonus track “Poor Song”), mixing them in with songs from the rest of their catalog. The final of Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ 2017 shows happens at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre on November 7 and is sold out.
