Yo La Tengo & Ensemble played Town Hall (pics/setlist); Condo Fucks & more playing tribute to Norton Rec's Billy Miller

Yo La Tengo played a very special show at NYC’s Town Hall on March 23 titled “And Then Yo La Tengo Turned Itself Inside Out” that had them perform with an ensemble featuring Chad Taylor (drums), Amy Garapic (drums), Zeena Parkins (harp), Mary Halvorson (guitar), Vincent Chancey (french horn), Roswell Rudd (trombone), Daniel Carter (saxophone) and Taylor Ho Bynum (trumpet). It gave fans familiar songs — “Ohm,” “Tom Courtenay,” “Autumn Sweater” and more — in ways they’ve probably never heard before across two sets, plus an encore of Sun Ra’s “Nuclear War.” Photos from the night are in the gallery above and setlist is below.

Yo La Tengo, who also recently served as Robyn Hitchcock’s backing band, will next play NYC in their all-covers Condo Fucks guise at Music Hall of Williamsburg on April 29 as part of the tribute to Norton Records’s Billy Miller who died last year. Also on the bill: Reigning Sound, Barrence Whitfield and The Savages, Daddy Long Legs, Bloodshot Bill, Miriam & Nobody’s Babies, plus special guests Mick Collins (Dirtbombs/Gories), The Great Gaylord, Lenny Kaye (Patti Smith Group), Roy Loney (Flamin’ Groovies), Andy Shernoff (The Dictators) and Peter Zaremba (The Fleshtones). Tickets are on sale and proceeds go to The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.

UPDATE: post originally read Emperor Norton, it is obviously Norton Records. Apologies.
