Yo La Tengo covered The Cure w/ Kurt Vile in Philly (watch), add NYC boat show
Yo La Tengo, who just played a sold-out NYC show at Brooklyn Steel, played Philadelphia’s Union Transfer the next night (4/7) and brought out Kurt Vile to joint them on their cover of The Cure’s “Friday I’m in Love” (which they did for their 2015 covers album Stuff Like That There). Ira, Georgia and James will be back for another NYC show this summer, this time a Rocks Off Concert Cruise on June 28. The show will be aboard the The Liberty Belle which departs from Pier 36 at the Seaport. Tickets ($50) for this show will be available with no service charges at Earwax Records in Williamsburg on Friday, April 13 from 5-9 PM and are cash only. Any remaining tickets will then go on sale online on Saturday (4/14) at noon.
Before that, Yo La Tengo will play the April 17 edition of The Chris Gethard Show. Tune in at 11 PM on truTV and if you’re in the NYC area you can register for tickets to the taping. UPDATE: YLT are unable to play the 4/17 episode, but Martha will play instead.
Meanwhile, Yo La Tengo’s tour in support of new album There’s A Riot Going On wraps up this week, hitting Carrboro, NC’s long-running club Cat’s Cradle tonight, with remaining shows in Atlanta and Nashville. After that the band heads to Europe and the Rocks Off show comes after a West Coast tour this summer. Updated dates are listed below.
