With Jeff Tweedy in town for the WFUV Holiday Cheer show and Live From Here (fka A Prairie Home Companion) and that he’d done it before back in 2010, it seemed like a shoo-in that he’d show up for one of Yo La Tengo‘s Hanukkah shows at Bowery Ballroom. It happened Sunday (12/17) for the Night 6 celebration, with Jeff performing set of mostly Wilco favorites, as well as new song “Bombs Above” and Uncle Tupelo song “New Madrid.”

Then for Yo La Tengo’s set, Jeff and his son Spencer joined the band for almost the whole set, making for a very special night of Yo La Tweedy. Their set included both YLT and Wilco songs, covers of The Beatles, Dylan and more. For the encore, Todd Barry (who was one of the night 1 comedians) joined on drums for a cover of T-Rex’s “Jeepster” and they also did covers of The Monkees, The Cars and Alex Chilton. Check out setlists for Jeff Tweedy’s opening set and Yo La Tengo’s, along with more pics and Instagram videos, below.

Speaking of shoo-ins, old pal Eugene Mirman (who ALSO played that same 2010 show with Jeff) was the night 6 comedian. Yo La Tengo’s James McNew made the night’s mix CD and proceeds from the evening went to benefit The Natural Resources Defense Council.

If you missed it, Superchunk were the surprise guests at Saturday’s show and you can check out a gallery of pics from that below. You can also check out setlists and lineups of all six previous shows HERE. Who do you think will be the surprise guests for Night 7? Tickets for the remaining two nights have now sold out.

Best way to celebrate Hanukkah. Thanks to @therealylt for having me on!
