YOB to release remastered/repackaged version of ‘Catharsis’ (stream a track)
by Doug Moore
Mike Scheidt at Saint Vitus in February (more by Caroline Harrison)
Mike Scheidt is having a good week. We mentioned a couple days ago, he’s getting a new band off the ground with Tad Doyle of TAD and Aaron Edge of Himsa. Today, Profound Lore announced some more exciting news: Catharsis, his main band YOB‘s long out-of-print 2003 classic, has been remastered on its 10th anniversary by Doyle and re-artworked by Edge for a November release. From their statement:
Re-mastered from the original tapes by Tad Doyle, giving “Catharsis” a more complete and warmer sound than the original, along with featuring new artwork and presentation design by Aaron Edge, and liner notes by Mike Schedit, this re-issue of “Catharsis” is the definite presentation of this album with its original tracklisting in place.
There you have it — perhaps the best doom metal band in the game is reissuing a nicer-sounding version of the album that launched their career. Fuck yeah. The PL post also includes a track from the remaster, “Ether,” which smokes; stream it below, and keep an eye out for its release on November 12.
