Yoko Ono created 'Sky' mural for refurbished 72nd St subway stop

The 72nd St B/C Subway Station on the Upper West Side just reopened after being closed for refurbishments. Along with new seats, LED signage and other improvements, there is now a mural created by Yoko Ono. As Curbed points out, it’s titled ‘Sky’ and features six mosaic panels that are throughout the station featuring images of the sky along with phrases like “imagine peace,” “dream,” “remember love,” and more. “It will bring the sky underground, so it’s always with us,” Yoko said in a statement. “I hope this will bring peace and joy to my fellow New Yorkers for many years to come.” The 72nd Street station is Yoko’s home stop — the Dakota, where she’s lived since the ’70s (originally with John Lennon who was shot right outside the building), is right there, as is the Strawberry Fields section of Central Park.

Meanwhile, Yoko’s new album Warzone, where she reimagines some of her past work, is out October 19 and she recently shared “I’m Alive” from the LP which you can listen to below.
