Charlotte black n’ crust collective Young and in the Way went full The Shining on Sunday, “spraying” pig’s blood during the Empire Tattoo showcase at Lexington Avenue Brewery in Asheville, North Carolina. This caused the venue to shut down and call the Buncombe County Health Department to assess the damage. Lexington Avenue Brewery general manager Benjy Greene said (via WLOS):

After a private music event in our back room, we voluntarily closed and contacted the Buncombe County Health department to advise us the best cleanup procedure for our back room.

Young and in the Way have yet to issue a statement, though Empire Tattoo have apologized for the event:

Though the actions and result of Sunday nights show were out of our hands we are sorry another local business is suffering. We have been in contact with Buncombe County health inspector over the matter and are aware that the “contamination” was confined to the back room of the LAB. We were also made aware by the health inspector that LAB was given “go ahead” to re open as soon as they wished without re inspection. Our mission for this party was to celebrate our business and customers with another local business. We hope for everyones sake we can all move forward from this in a positive manner. We appreciate everyones support on this matter.

Lexington Avenue Brewery hopes it can have the stage cleaned by Saturday for the David Bowie cover band Wham Bam Bowie Band. Godspeed, cleaning crew. Remember, we can be heroes.

Young and in the Way will be in NYC opening the BV-presented stop of the Oathbreaker and Cult Leader tour which happens July 24 at Acheron with Badr Vogu and the recently-added Meek Is Murder. Tickets are still available and the show is now 18+ (rather than 21+). Luckily, Brooklyn doesn’t have any history with bands wielding pig’s blood. Nope. None.

You can check out a local news report — which might as well be presented by Perd Hapley — regarding the incident, below…
