Young Widows

Young Widows releasing comp, touring (stream an unreleased track)

Noise rock/post-hardcore greats Young Widows are celebrating their fruitful career with a rarities compilation, DECAYED: Ten Years of Cities, Wounds, Lightness, and Pain, that includes four previously-unreleased songs. It’s due out June 8 via Temporary Residence Ltd (pre-order). Here’s the background on the release:

DECAYED: Ten Years of Cities, Wounds, Lightness, and Pain perfectly charts Young Widows’ evolution from inspired post-hardcore trio to peerless entity crafting profound combinations of post-punk, noise rock, heavy psych, and gothic folk. The fifteen tracks in this collection originally appeared on stand-alone singles, b-side, splits with like- minded artists (including Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Pelican, Melt-Banana, and MY DISCO), and rare compilations. Four of them have never been released until now. Of the many impressive aspects of Young Widows’ decade-plus run as a band, perhaps most remarkable is the quality and breadth of music they made that didn’t appear on their albums. Every song here is a standout track from the evolving eras of the band, and as with all things Young Widows, DECAYED pays respect to the past while planting roots for the future.

We’re premiering one of the previously-unreleased songs, “Rolling As A Forgiver,” which is on the band’s noisy and experimental side and has some truly weird sounds while still managing to be a crusher. Listen below.

In addition to releasing the compilation, Young Widows will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of 2008’s Old Wounds by playing it in full on tour. Openers vary by date and include dark singer/songwriter Emma Ruth Rundle (who has a split with Young Widows’ singer), Alexis Marshall of Daughters reading from his book, and Null (members of Coliseum).

The tour includes Brooklyn shows on June 14 and 15 at Saint Vitus. Night one is with Emma Ruth Rundle and Alexis Marshall, and night two is with Null. Tickets for those shows are on sale now. All dates are listed below.
