Diplo

Zack Fox kicked off Twitter for fighting Diplo? Thor for a penis?

Zack Fox, who designed the artwork for Thundercat’s new album (and is Thundercat’s good internet friend), was recently suspended from Twitter after being mean to Diplo. He tells his story in a blog post called I Was Suspended From Twitter For Being Mean To Diplo. Zack, who’s now back on Twitter, said he was “forced to react” when Diplo “slithered onto [his] timeline on Sunday with a stank remark fetishizing Iranian women affected by Donald Trump’s so-called Muslim ban.” Here’s his tweet:

Zack continues, “Do I think Diplo was making a harmless joke? No. But should I have given him a break because he’s just an entertainer? Also no.” Diplo fired back at Zack, and here’s how their convo played out:

Zack goes on to say he realized he was suspended from Twitter after getting a text from a friend, and the suspension only lasted about half a day. “All hell broke loose in [his] notifications” when he was suspended, though. “Collaborators, friends, and fans rallied against the random and overtly sus move by Twitter, someone even made a diss song/liberation anthem.” Read more of the very funny story here.

That’s not the only recent music-related Twitter suspension. As Zack points out in that article, it came soon after Swans’ Thor Harris was suspended from Twitter for posting a “How to Punch a Nazi” video. Thor is back on Twitter now too, and earlier today he published a piece for The Talkhouse, where he discussed his Twitter suspension. Here’s the kicker:

I’m glad I put that video out there. Anyone who is bothered by it but not bothered by a President Trump has much to learn about the world and how to live in it.

He also said he got an email from Twitter suggesting his nazi video wasn’t actually the reason he was suspended:

The evening of February 8 they unsuspended my Twitter account and sent me an email saying that the “pornographic” background on my profile had gotten me suspended. The background was an ink drawing I had made of penises. It had been there for years.

Maybe Zack Fox’s suspension didn’t actually have to do with Diplo either?
