Zola Jesus

Zola Jesus announces new album on Sacred Bones & tour, shares "Exhumed"

Yesterday it was revealed that Zola Jesus is playing the 2017 Basilica Soundscape festival, and today she announced a new album. It’s called Okovi and it comes out on September 8 and marks her return to Sacred Bones, after she signed to Mute for 2014’s Taiga. (This follows her recent performance at the Sacred Bones 10th anniversary show.) Main member Nika Roza Danilova made the album with longtime live member Alex DeGroot, as well as WIFE, Shannon Kennedy (of Pedestrian Deposit), and percussionist Ted Byrnes. That’s the artwork above and you can check out the tracklist below.

The first single is “Exhumed,” which is darker and more aggressive than the Taiga stuff, and a very fitting lead single for her return to Sacred Bones. The big, bold, faux-orchestral synths and clattering percussion are the perfect backdrop for Nika’s soaring voice, which sounds as stunning as ever on “Exhumed.” Listen below.

Also, it turns out that Basilica Soundscape is the first date of a lengthy North American tour that Zola will be on through late October. The tour includes a Brooklyn show on October 4 at Rough Trade with noise artist John Wiese (of Sissy Spacek, Bastard Noise, and more). Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (6/9) at noon with an AmEx presale starting Wednesday (6/7) at noon. All dates are listed below.

Zola is also one of the many artists releasing an Adult Swim single this year.
