Zola Jesus collaborated w/ J.G. Thirlwell for new LP, 'Versions,' doing shows with him too (dates & stream)

Zola Jesus

When Zola Jesus performed at the Guggenheim last year, she worked with Foetus’ J.G. Thirlwell on orchestral arrangements of her songs for a string quartet. Those have since been laid to tape for Versions, due out August 20 via Sacred Bones. Says ZJ’s Nika Roza Danilova:

Versions is about the bone of the music; taking approximations from past records and turning them inside out. With all framework exposed, the songs are given a new medium in which to evolve and bloom into their own tiny worlds.

That’s the cover art above and you can stream “Avalanche (Slow)” from Versions below.

While a full tour hasn’t been announced, Zola Jesus will be performing shows with Thirlwell this fall, including one at Brooklyn Heights’ Our Lady of Lebanon Cathedral on September 14 which is part of the Wordless Music series. Tickets for that show are on sale now. Zola and Thirlwell are performing in Chicago too.

You can catch Thirlwell tonight, spinning tunes between sets at the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion show at Music Hall of Williamsburg.
