10 New Metal Songs Out This Week

This is an exceptionally big week for metal. I reviewed the great new Dreadnought, BIG|BRAVE, Martyrdod, and Spirit Adrift albums for Notable Releases and you can read about even more metal albums — including the first Possessed album in 33 years, Call of the Void, Lice, and more — at Invisible Oranges’ ‘Upcoming Metal Releases.’ This week also gave us new singles by Converge offshoot Wear Your Wounds, Cult of Luna, Tomb Mold, Pinkish Black, Aseethe, and more. Read on for all the metal (and metal-adjacent) songs we posted on BV this week…

WEAR YOUR WOUNDS – “RUST ON THE GATES OF HEAVEN”

Converge frontman J Bannon’s comparatively softer project Wear Your Wounds has announced a new album and shared the title track, which is a towering dose of atmospheric post-metal. Read more about it here.

CULT OF LUNA – “THE SILENT MAN”

Post-metal greats Cult of Luna are gearing up to release a new album this year, and while title and release date are still TBA, they did unleash the lead single which we wrote more about here.

TOMB MOLD – “INFINITE RESURRECTION”

Rising death metallers Tomb Mold have officially announced their anticipated new album and released a new single, which we wrote more about here.

PINKISH BLACK – “DIAL TONE”

Pinkish Black’s new album Concept Unification comes out June 14 via Relapse, and you can read much more about new single “Dial Tone” over at Invisible Oranges.

CONSUMMATION – “OPHIDIAN CROWN”

Australian death/black metallers Consummation are releasing their new album The Great Solar Hunter on June 7 via Profound Lore, and they’re now streaming the absolutely gruesome opening track, “Ophidian Crown.”

ASEETHE – “THROES”

Aseethe have revealed the title track off their anticipated new album Throes (due 5/17 via Thrill Jockey), and it’s nine and a half minutes of lumbering sludge/doom done right. You can also read a new interview with Aseethe over at Invisible Oranges.

GLASSING – “FOLLOW THROUGH”

Austin’s Glassing are part post-hardcore, part atmospheric black metal, and new single “Follow Through” is a great example of their take on both genres. Read more about it at Invisible Oranges.

THE ACCUSED AD – THE GHOUL IN THE MIRROR (ALBUM STREAM)

Blaine Cook and Alex Sibbald of Seattle crossover vets The Accused now have an active version of the band called The Accused AD and their new Jack Endino-produced album is cut from the same cloth as those ’80s classics. Read more here.

CHARGER – CHARGER (EP STREAM)

The members of Rancid have been busy with non-Rancid projects lately, and here’s the new EP from bass wiz/vocalist Matt Freeman’s band Charger. They’re more on the Motorhead side than Rancid, and it should be no surprise that Freeman’s bark is perfect for this kind of thing.

BLACK MOUNTAIN – “LICENSED TO DRIVE”

Psychedelic indie hard rockers Black Mountain have shared another song off their anticipated new album Destroyer, and this one sees them delivering ’70s-style, denim and leather-wearing biker rock, but in that unique Black Mountain way.
