10 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review five new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

VIC MENSA – “DARK THINGS”

This insane year for high-profile rap albums will also include a new Vic Mensa EP, Hooligans, which comes out December 14 via Roc Nation/Capitol. It features his recent single “Reverse” as well as new single “Dark Things,” which sees Vic in auto-tuned, sing-rap mode, but in a dark, melancholic way. Weeknd fans might wanna check this one out.

AMERICAN PLEASURE CLUB – “IF IT’S YOUR FINAL WISH I’LL MAKE IT HAPPEN”

Baltimore indie-punks American Pleasure Club (fka Teen Suicide) made a drastic departure from their usual sound on their new song “if it’s your final wish i’ll make it happen,” which was recorded with Kitty (who joined the band this year and who’s married to APC singer Sam Ray) and which sees them straddling the line between sludge metal and screamo. Let’s hope they play this one on their upcoming tour with Thursday.

LE SUPERHOMARD – “MEADOW LANE PARK”

Do you miss Stereolab? Specifically the mid-’90s Stereolab that gave us Emperor Tomato Ketchup and Dots and Loops? French band Le Superhomard have a little of that flavor, lush and shiny with super-groovy bass lines. “Meadow Lane Park” is from their Springtime EP that’s out this Friday.

ST. VINCENT – “PERFECT DAY” (LOU REED COVER)

St. Vincent opened last night’s BAM show with pianist Thomas Bartlett with an absolutely gorgeous cover of Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day.” It’s a very worthy take on a very classic song.

TAKING BACK SUNDAY – “ALL READY TO GO”

Taking Back Sunday’s upcoming 20th anniversary greatest hits album Twenty (due January 11) also features two new songs, including “All Ready To Go,” which is cut from a similar Against Me-ish cloth as TBS’ last album, 2016’s Tidal Wave.

A PERFECT CIRCLE – “DOG EAT DOG” (AC/DC COVER)

A Perfect Circle are releasing a limited edition 7″ for “So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish” off this year’s Eat The Elephant for Record Store Day Black Friday, and it comes backed with a cover of AC/DC’s “Dog Eat Dog,” which is streaming now. Though APC have been known to drastically rework covers in the past, they keep this one pretty faithful to the original. “A belated farewell nod to Malcolm Young, who, along with Bon Scott, played a significant role in my rebellious, hasher youth. God Speed, Malcolm,” said Maynard James Keenan.

PHOSPHORESCENT – “HOUSE OF CARDS” (RADIOHEAD COVER)

Phosphorescent, who released the great C’est La Vie this year, recorded a Sirius XMU session where he did a bare-bones, acoustic cover of Radiohead’s “House of Cards.” He gives the song an Americana twist and really makes it sound like his own.

ART BRUT – “SHE KISSED ME (AND IT FELT LIKE A HIT)”

“I love a big glorious love song,” Art Brut frontman Eddie Argos tells us. “This is one and it’s about love at first kiss, it’s about immediately knowing the person you are with is even better than appearing on Top Of The Pops and what could be more glorious than that?” Art Brut’s first LP in seven years is out this week.

CZARFACE – “CZAR IN ACTION”

Czarface (aka Wu-Tang’s Inspectah Deck and Boston duo 7L & Esoteric) are releasing a comic book and a four-song instrumental 7″ for Record Store Day Black Friday. “Czar In Action” is now streaming, and you can read more here.

WEEZER – “ZOMBIE BASTARDS”

The second single off The Black Album is so cringeworthy that it might have you unironically appreciating Weezer’s “Africa” cover in comparison.
