11 New Songs Out Today

Chromatics
Chromatics

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review five new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

CHROMATICS – “PETALS” (HOLE COVER)

This cover of Hole’s “Petals” was featuring the final scene of film The Perfection, probably won’t surprise you — Chromatics turn the Celebrity Skin cut into something that sounds like they could’ve written it. But in that respect, it’s quite nice. But we’re still waiting on Dear Tommy.

PIPE-EYE (CRAIG of KING GIZZARD) – “INSIDE/OUTSIDE”

Craig Cook of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard will release Inside/Outside, his third album as Pipe-Eye, on June 7 via Flightless/ATO. He’s just shared the title track, a catchy bit of light, melodic psychedelia.

TUNNG – “BANK HOLIDAY”

UK band Tuung, who reunited with Sam Genders for last year’s very good Songs You Make at Night, are putting out a collection of outtakes and b-sides titled This Is Tunng…Magpie Bites and Other Cuts on June 28 via Full Time Hobby. Appropriately enough, given the just-past Memorial Day Weekend, they’ve just shared “Bank Holiday” from the record. The band say it’s “a song about a guy who is supposed to be spending a nice day with his girlfriend on her birthday, which happens to fall on a bank holiday. It starts badly when he tries to make her breakfast in bed but he burns the toast and it goes downhill from there.”

SLAUGHTER BEACH, DOG – “ONE DOWN” & “GOOD ONES”

Slaughter Beach, Dog began as the solo project of Modern Baseball co-frontman Jake Ewald, but he’s since added additional band members: Ian Farmer, also of Modern Baseball; Nick Harris of All Dogs; and Zack Robbins of Superheaven. After a full year of collaborating and recording, they’ve announced a new album, Safe And Also No Fear, due out August 2 via Lame-O Records, and shared the first two singles, “One Down” and “Good Ones.”

CLAIRE CRONIN – “WOLFMAN”

Musician and poet Claire Cronin is releasing Big Dread Moon on June 14 via Orindal Records. We’ve already heard “Tourniquet,” an here’s another haunting, minimal folk tune from the album.

FRENCH VANILLA – “LOST POWER”

L.A. band French Vanilla have shared a third track from their upcoming album, How Am I Not Myself?. “Lost Power” is a driving post-punk inspired song about singer Sally Spitz’s “experience feeling comfortable in a relationship that was heteronormative and visible, which began to engender a feeling of lost self.” Check it out via the hallucinogenic Ryan Sluggett-directed video.

JADE IMAGINE – “BIG OLD HOUSE”

Led by songwriter songwriter Jade McInally, Melbourne, Australia three-piece jade imagine have been around for three years or so, making appealing, dreamy guitar pop. Following a few singles, the group are planning on releasing their debut album this year via Milk Records (the label who initially signed Courtney Barnett). Details on the LP are still to come, jade imagine have just released this new single that has us excited for more.

TAYLOR BENNETT – “NO ONE OUTSIDE” (FEAT. CHANCE THE RAPPER & BIANCA SHAW)

Chance the Rapper’s brother Taylor Bennett put out a new 8-track EP, The American Reject, today. As he told Billboard, it “showcases my views on systematic segregation through my eyes as an openly bi-sexual African American from Chicago Illinois.” It includes a guest-spot from his brother, and his label Tay Bennett Entertainment’s first signee, fellow Chicagoan Bianca Shaw.

ABUSE OF POWER – “WHAT ON EARTH CAN WE DO”

Atlanta hardcore outfit Abuse of Power are releasing their debut LP What On Earth Can We Do on June 14 via Triple B Records, and ahead of that they’ve shared the album’s title track.

DUNCAN LLOYD – “PLANETARIUM”

Maximo Park guitarist Duncan Lloyd will be back with his third solo album, Outside Notion, on June 7 via Afternoon In Bed Records. As with 2017’s I O U O M E, Lloyd’s own work is a little more introspective, and on this album he cites the orchestral sounds of Scott Walk and Eric Matthews as influences, which are pretty apparent on this single.
