12 New Rap Songs Out This Week

This whole week in hip hop we’ve been mourning the death of Nipsey Hussle, and there were also new songs released by Noname, Saba’s Pivot Gang (ft. Smino), Schoolboy Q (ft. Travis Scott), JPEGMAFIA, Ezra Collective (ft. Loyle Carner), Anderson .Paak (ft. Smokey Robinson), and more. Read on for all the hip hop we posted on BV this week…

NONAME – “SONG 32”

On New Year’s Day, Noname followed her great 2018 album Room 25 with the song “Song 31,” and now she has followed that with “Song 32.” Over a floating atmosphere and a head-nodding drum beat, Noname delivers razor-sharp bars that suggest she’s only getting better.

PIVOT GANG – “BAD BOYS” (ft. SMINO)

Saba’s Pivot Gang recently released their first song in six years, “Jason Statham, Pt. 2,” followed by “Studio Ground Rules,” and now they have released a third new single and announced their proper debut studio album, You Can’t Sit with Us (due April 19). The new song features Smino, who fits in perfectly to Pivot Gang’s world. The album also features Kari Faux, Mick Jenkins, Sylvan LaCue, Jean Deaux, Femdot, and Benjamin Earl Turner.

SCHOOLBOY Q – “CHOPSTIX” (ft. TRAVIS SCOTT)

Schoolboy Q is gearing up to release his anticipated new album, and a second single was released today. Following the short, fast, and to-the-point “Numb Numb Juice,” “Chopstix” is a little poppier with an auto-tuned hook from Travis Scott. As ever, Q is in fine form.

JPEGMAFIA – “THE WHO” (ft. EYAS)

Rising rapper JPEGMAFIA has released his new song “The Who” as part of the IHC 1NFINITY singles series. It was recorded during the sessions for last year’s Veteran, and he says: “‘The Who’ is one of the last songs I recorded for Veteran. It didn’t end up on the album, but I always wanted to use it in a creative way because I really enjoy the song. There’s an innocence to it that I hope is relatable to people. I made the beat naked.”

EZRA COLLECTIVE – “WHAT AM I TO DO?” (ft. LOYLE CARNER)

UK jazz group Ezra Collective’s anticipated debut album You Can’t Steal My Joy comes out April 26, and they’ve now shared the collab with UK rapper Loyle Carner, “What Am I To Do?” EC basically let LC take the lead here, and they provide him with shimmering keys, swelling horns, and head-nodding hip hop drums.

ANDERSON .PAAK – “MAKE IT BETTER” (ft. SMOKEY ROBINSON)

Anderson .Paak has shared a second single from his anticipated new album Ventura, and this one features the legendary Smokey Robinson. It’s also the kind of throwback soul that fans of Smokey Robinson will probably like, and Paak is a natural at this kind of thing. The accompanying video was directed by Andy Hines, who’s also done videos for Rae Sremmurd, Jim James, Kali Uchis, and more.

WIKI – “NEW WRITTEN #4”

Wiki just joined Earl Sweatshirt on stage at Irving Plaza over the weekend and he’s gearing up for his own NYC show this Tuesday (4/2) at Mercury Lounge. Ahead of that show, he dropped this new freestyle.

PLANIT HANK – “WHAT HAPPENED TO THE STREETS?” (ft. BENNY THE BUTCHER & M.O.P.)

Benny the Butcher is part of the same Griselda Records crew as Westside Gunn and Conway, and like those guys, his style owes a lot to ’90s New York rap but sounds fresh today too. For this new song, he teams up with some actual ’90s-era New York rappers, Brownsville duo M.O.P., over a psychedelic beat from Planit Hank. These guys all sound great together, and if you’re prone to liking this kinda thing, you probably already know this one’s a winner.

CURREN$Y, TRADEMARK DA SKYDIVER & YOUNG RODDY – “NO HOOK”

Curren$y teams with his Jet Life pals Trademark Da Skydiver and Young Roddy for the new song “No Hook.” As the title implies, there’s no hook, just bars, and the trio pay tribute to the late Nipsey Hussle on this one.

BLACKPINK – “KILL THIS LOVE”

Ridiculously popular K-pop/hip hop group BLACKPINK, who are gearing up for a North American tour surrounding Coachella, have unleashed the new single “Kill This Love,” the title track of their new EP which came out Friday via YG Entertainment/Interscope. It’s over the top, bombastic, and effortlessly catchy.

MIGUEL – TE LO DIJE (EP STREAM)

Miguel has returned with a new EP featuring Spanish-language versions of five songs from his War & Leisure album. The new project features Kali Uchis, Flor de Toloache, and C.Tangana. “Crazy, I think I like these songs better in Spanish,” Miguel says.

LIL NAS X – “OLD TOWN ROAD” (ft. BILLY RAY CYRUS) [REMIX]

I got the horses in the back…
