12 New Songs Out Today
So many artists, so little time. Each week we review five new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…
NIPSEY HUSSLE – “PERFECT TIMING”
Nipsey Hussle already released one of 2018’s best rap albums with Victory Lap, and now he’s taken another victory lap with the release of the late-2018 single “Perfect Timing.” It’s in the mode of the chest-puffed triumphs that populate Victory Lap, and it’s a nice way for Nipsey to cap off the year.

THIS WHITE LIGHT – “BURNING THE VEIL”
This White Light — the new band with Greg Anderson (Goatsnake, Sunn O))), etc), Bryan Herweg (Pelican), Jade Devitt (who was in Engine Kid with Greg Anderson), and vocalist Jen Wood (Tattle Tale, The Postal Service’s “Nothing Better”) — have shared their third song, following “Winter Flowers” and “The House.” The other two songs were a bit more metal, but this one’s kinda got a ’90s post-hardcore vibe, somewhere between Hum and Sunny Day Real Estate, and This White Light are great at this kinda thing too.

WOODY GUTHRIE – “HOODOO VOODOO”
A 1954 recording of an unfinished Woody Guthrie song “Hoodoo Voodoo” has been unearthed. The song was on Wilco & Billy Bragg’s 1998 Mermaid Avenue album which was based on unfinished Guthrie works — they added other Guthrie lyric fragments to flesh it out — but Variety has this the original.

MILLENCOLIN – “SOS”
Swedish skate punk vets Millencolin are releasing their ninth album SOS on February 15 via their longtime home of Epitaph, and the lead single/title track is about as classic Millencolin as it gets. It’s got a part animated, part performance footage video, and you can check that out here:

MY TEENAGE STRIDE – “PERMANENTLY WIRED”
It’s been a while since Jed Smith’s indie pop project My Teenage Stride released anything but they just released “Permanently Wired.” Jed says it was “Started long ago, forgotten, and finished in the cold fresh heck of this winter.” It’s got a bit of a VU “Sunday Morning” vibe and it’s good to have MTS back. More, please.

THE RACONTEURS – “SUNDAY DRIVER” & “NOW THAT YOU’RE GONE”
The Raconteurs have released their first two songs in a decade, and it’s great to have them back. Read more here.

CRANE LIKE THE BIRD – “WISHING CAP (ft. THE SHINS’ JAMES MERCER)
Kyle Crane is releasing a self-titled solo album as Crane Like The Bird and it features tons of famous guest vocalists, including The Shins’ James Mercer on “Wishing Cap.” Read more here.

SOFI TUKKER – “BENADRYL” (TOKIMONSTA REMIX)
TOKiMONSTA’s remix of “Benadryl” is the first song shared from Sofi Tukker’s upcoming “Benadryl” remix EP, and we wrote more about it here.

LOU DOILLON – “BURN”
Model/actress/singer and daughter of Jane Birkin, Lou Doillon will release new album, Soliloquy, will be out February 1. On it she worked with a few different notable producers: Cat Power (who is also featured on the LP’s “It’s You”), Taylor Kirk of Timber Timbre, Benjamin Leabeau of The Shows, and Dan Levy of art-pop duo The dø. Lead single is the the slinky and appealing “Burn.”

YOUTH TEAM – “GLISTEN”
The final song in Adult Swim Singles’ 2018 series comes from Scotland’s enigmatic Youth Team, who delivers this glitchy synthstrumental. If this has you wanting to hear more, Youth Team will drop new LP Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape later this week.

KELSO – “GLITTER”
Camp Cope bassist Kelly-Dawn Hellmrich joins Gab Strum (aka Japanese Wallpaper) and Xavier Rubetzki Noonan as Kelso, a name Kelly has used as a nickname and for previous solo material. This track is among those they plan to debut live at some upcoming Australia shows opening for Soccer Mommy.
